Hey man , I was getting low mpg also and did a spark plugs cleaning and put a bottle of redline f/i and system cleanner from Pep Boys. It worked fine and the car(45kmiles on it ) feels like new again .And the mpg is back to normal again. We can not expect to reach the high mpg that the boys from the states have becase we are in a very hot climate plus the humidity that is high so I think we are fine with that ! And remmember that our car have a 2.4 lt. gas hungry engine .

My MPG has dropped considerably with the recent extremely hot and humid weather we've been having the last 3 weeks. Weather definitely makes an impact (and not because the a/c is running - I open the windows). I typically do 50/50 city/hwy driving.

I seem to recall reading in an old school repair manual that it was not a good idea to clean the spark plugs, that gapping them was sufficient... does this sound familiar to anyone else or am I dreaming? It might have had something to do with the fact that if you have to clean them, they were fowled and should be replaced..

Acctually, Putting down your windows down kills gas mileage just as bad at 55+ as an ac below 50, I refer you to the 'Audi A4 test drive' done by Top Gear its on youtube, and I am to lazy to find it, but it refer's to stuff to do to save on gas mileage. But here in florida, I don't get all that great of gas I get roughly 22 with only 5k miles, and I shift at between 1.5k and 3.5k depending on traffic and still get that gas mileage, so it has to be the weather because that's at like 98 - 104~ish so yea.

You shouldn't clean or gap them, since they are iridium. Get new ones, it's really not that expensive.

maybe not expensive on the states but in P.R. they are $24.00 each! So its worth cleaning them to extend their use a bit more.

It's it really bad for the engine to shift at 2500 or below?

I think that your putting too much stress on the motor by placing a lot of load on the low rpms.

No, it's not bad for the engine to shift that low.

In fact, the manual gives you shift points for every gear for maximum gas efficiency, and it's usually between 2100-2300rpm.

Side note : If you get the downpipe you will get very used ot shifting at those RPMS....... I usually shift at about 2500 RPM

I got 27mpg on my last tank, so far my average is 25mpg.

I record the miles on each gas reciept so its very accurate.

EDIT: Stopped and filled up yesterday, with 308 miles on the tank. Took 10.1 gallons to fill it.
Is this all highway miles cause thats some crazy stuff. For 10.2 gallons i get about 225 with mostly city and some highway.
