Head swap?
Head swap?
I havn't been a avid reader this last few months, did a quick search and found nothing so i thought i'd throw this out there. Is a head swap possible on the 4g69? What about the 4g64 or 4g63? forget all the **** about getting an evo or the issues with wiring or anything like that, just nuts and bolts. I know the 64 and 63 heads are interchangeable, but what other block head combos are possible in the 4g family? Don't guess, if u don't know don't comment, nay sayers kill the chances of someone trying something new!
You could probibly attempt it, but im not sure if the coolant passages will match up like they do in hondas. There really wouldnt be a point unless a certain combo will end up with more torque or something. Like a b18 LS block and a b16 head in honda speak.

......but what good is that on a peg-leg drivetrain?
OP -- could probably swap the 4G94 head in....but why? Doubt that everything would line up from a 4G63.

Well if a 4g63 head will fit you could use a evo9 head and keep mivec. Would it be as simple as comparing head gaskets or am i over simplifying it? DOHC does have its advantages. This months DSport has a evo8 with a 4g64 and a 4g63 head, just got me thinking what other combos are there that havn't been tried yet!

Why do you doubt it? Why do you think the 4g94 would work but not the 4g63?
Sorry if i'm coming off like a *****, its not my intention i assure you. I'm just fustrated with the answers, nothing concrete just people guessing and bs'ing. I wish i had the resources to try this myself, but we don't get evo's up here and i don't have the money to throw down on a head that "probabaly won't fit". But i figured that since there's a lot of shops on this board maybe some disscussion into the matter would get them interested in trying it. i dunno, maybe in 10 years when ra's and evo are in junkyards...sigh
dont know much about this but that evo has both a 4g64 and 4g63 head...? how can it have to heads?? i always thought this was a one or the other thing, but my mechanic know how goes as far as putting on basic bolt ons so feel free to flame if i sound like a moron right now.

Sorry its a 4g64 block with a 4g63 head...and your right, inline engines only have one head.

To many people know very little about these complex jobs.
When people say an evo engine cant be swapped in - they know nothing.
Engine swaps in general cant be done - know nothing!
Head swap, I've no idea if it would work - someone would have to throughly research it.
Finally Mivec on the Evo 9 is just variable valve timing and not lift.
