how to get 5-speed shifting as smooth as possible

I have a 2004 Ralli Art with 10k.

5 speed trans doesn't seem to shift smoothly-especially compared to my honda .

What is best way to get trans shifting smoothly?

Thanks

Motor mounts and shift bushings would be a step in the right direction. It's always going to be a bit notchy, though, that's just the way it is.

are motor mounts and engine dampners the same?

where to for engine mounts?

will eliminating the clutch restrictor make a difference?

The clutch resistor will change how the clutch feels, but not how the shifter feels. Motor mounts are already on your car, but aftermarket ones are filled with urethane so they're stiff, keep the engine from moving, but can also transfer vibration to the cabin. Engine dampers are a metal arm or shock that connect an engine mount to the strut tower. Doesn't reduce engine movement as much as mounts, but it also doesn't transfer as much vibration.

Try the dampener first, if you still think you need the mounts go for it. either way its a win/win situation with either of them. I just don't like my cabin to vibrate much cause my car already rattles like crazy...

RRM sells solid mounts for a decent price, I also have a set of stockers for sale (link in my sig) if you wanted to try the DIY. The vibration isn't too bad, my buddies civic is much worse. You can search and find two companies that sell a damper, I don't recall the names of the companies.

There is a thread in the Ralliart market place for Zaklee torque damper. I have it on my car and i am pleased with it. Very easy install, cool guy to buy from.

thanks guys

Yes, notchiness in the shifter is one of my main concerns

BG synchro shift - where do you get it at?

Is it that much better than say Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid?

BG can be found at some online parts places. Quick search around and you should find it. There's both a regular BG and a synthetic version. Both will yield improvements, and yes, it's better than the Mobil 1 trans fluid.

Another option that people have done, and it's easier to find, is to go to a Chevy dealer and pick up some GM Synchromesh trans fluid (stuff they use in the Corvettes.) It supposedly works just about as well as the BG stuff, but it's easier to obtain.

Is the GM synchromesh real thin . like a motor oil?

Will that be OK vs. gear oil mitsu recommends? Is BG stuff thin too?
