Thanks, I'll have to call around to some other cities to compare prices since there is only one Mitsu dealer in town.

As for doing it myself, I'm not much of a mechanic and I'm not a fan of taking the bus after I kill my car

IIRC, from last time I did mine, parts run around $200. Belts, pulleys, and tensioner. As far as labor goes, it shouldn't take any shop more than 4 hours. I can knock mine out in under 3.

My mitsu dealer didnt know what a valve lash adjustment was. They hadnt even performed one on a RA before. I dont want car to be their guinea pig either. I have a little of the raspy ticking and my car has 50K miles. I do most of the work on my car but the valve adjustment does not sound too fun.

It's really not bad, however, I say that knowing that a few people here have had a really hard time with it for some reason. Takes me about 20 minutes to do, including the time it takes to jack up the car and remove the passenger wheel for access to the crankshaft.

Hey guys, Its time for me to do my timing belt, I was wondering if those of you who have done it yourself could confirm if I need any special tools to do it? Any specific tool I would need for the tensioner? I don't have a Mitsubishi dealer in town anymore so I will be getting it done at a shop which is familiar with Mitsus, having done them in the past, but I don't want a surprise when they start working on the car and figure out they need a special tool.

As I understand it only the balance shaft belt and timing belt need to be changed at 60 000 miles or so? The balance shaft tensioner, timing belt tensioner, and timing belt tensioner pulley do not need to be replaced?

Thanks!
