Some info on 4g69 Valves
Bad news. Well i guess its the same news the ralliart community is always used to. But if you want anything done to your valvetrain, its going to be custom made. and thats big big $$$$. So no, i didnt do MUCH to my valvetrain. The only thing i managed to do was get some SS valves custom made, and I got my Springs shimmed down. All thanks to dave at headgames motor works. he is a vendor on evom.net so you can search for him and hit him up. And now that he has done my head, he has experience with the 4g69. But like i said, as far as all the goodies for the valvetrain, we struck out left and right. Closest thing to a fit was an Audi lol. So i got the custom valves from Manley, and shimmed springs and ported/polished head from Headgames in New Jersey.
I consider anyone a little nuts to try and build up the RA motor not that I haven't thought about it but the shear PITA to get parts. I'd trade it in if I wasn't such a die hard.
aaahhh, i dont know if you have been keeping up, but i found some parts that fit our car, and i think i'm one of the very VERY few poeple taking this generation ralliart to the next level. If you decide to build the motor up, let me know.
and lanzar, sorry to hear about your car, i'm checking the post now....
After getting my head back From headgames motor works (awesome) They gave me a breakdown of the drive train. Basically nothing will fit this car. sucks dont it? not even swapping over and cross referencing stuff. no valve, springs, guides, retainers. nothing.
The only thing i did to my head so far was shimmed down springs, and a full port and polish that is a lot more aggressive the the RRM head i had.
but anyway, back on the valve train info i got....
Dave @ headgames motorworks (vendor on this site, look for him) is the guy who did my head. After a few months of checking and researching. He said nothing will match, and everything will be custom made. Thats money. But the best, and most realistic way to do it is this:
He said our best bet is getting custom made guides to fit our head, and that will help allow evo valve train parts to fit (or with some customization). That will be the foundation to getting the rest of stuff to fit. I was going to do all this this year, but it would cost to much money, and i want to focus more on the bottom end of the motor this year. Next year i'll be doing the valvetrain and ecu, to prepare for a larger turbo. When it comes time to do the valvetrain, You all know i'll be telling ppl what to do. I'm here to help.
A small explanation of the issue is that the stem diameter is smaller then normal, and really just a oddball size because usually there is something from some other head that will be close. Most manufactures are in unison with stem diameters, when I say this I mean if it a 6mm valve stem (which the 69 comes with) the stem is .236 (two hundred-thirty six thousandths) so when we make custom valves for a Nissan, Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Chevrolet etc.. they all use with a couple of tenths of that number. But, Mitsu made the 4G69 with a .233 stem. I think it's actually a little smaller then that, but within a tenth of a thousandths. That is where the issues begin. No aftermarket manufacture makes a valve blank with that small of a stem. And, you can not turn down the stem. And REALLY doesn't make fiscal sense to go through the trouble without making a guide for it.
So, with a custom guide, you could switch it over to the .236 stem and opens it up for using a host of different custom parts to be made much easier.
