can i resurface?

Last September I had a CM stage 1 clutch and CM lightweight flywheel installed. Something has caused the clutch to burn out in less than a year (I promise it is not my driving.. only highway and i dont abuse or ride the clutch). The throwout bearing also needs to be replaced.. which may have caused the problem in the first place.

So I took it in and the shop says they can't resurface my flywheel because it is a "flexible" one? I may be misquoting that, but either way he says they have to replace, not resurface... which does not seem right to me at all. My guess is he looked it up somewhere, as they haven't actually torn apart my car yet. From what I've read I should be able to get it done, but searching I only found posts about standard flywheels and not the CM lightweight.

Can I tell him he is wrong? And while Im posting, what clutch do you guys recommend? or am I safe sticking with CM?

as always, thanks for your replies

I've been working on figuring this out. Clutch Masters says I can replace the ring instead of the whole flywheel, but that the aluminum can't be resurfaced. I'm still working on getting a part # and price for this.

Has anyone tried resurfacing a CM aluminum flywheel or replaced this part? Or am I an idiot for even asking lol

Im not sure if you can resurface an aftermarket one. If you want a replacement grab an eclipse one from the junkyard. an yes, stay with CM the ACTs blow.

He's wrong.

I have the clutchmasters flywheel. and not only did I get mine resurfaced, but I told the machine shop to shave off as much weight as possible. And they did.

that was 3 years ago. More recently, I blueprinted and balanced everything in my rotation assembly, including my flywheel. So it got further worked on. So 2 different people worked on my flywheel.

I would say they dont' know what they are talking about. or your clutch REALLY did a number on the flywheel and burnt it all the way through, which i highly highly doubt.

It most certainly can be done, and on that flywheel. Had it done myself. good luck.

And my combination is ACT clutch, and Clutchmasters flywheel. I had a stage one CM sucked. i had a stage one ACT, it was better. I now have the stage 3 ACT and love it.

awesome. what i needed to know. ty!

since ill be "saving" money there.. should i be doing the rrm clutchline with the stage 1 clutch? i dont drive it hard that often, but i have noticed it still hesitates. I just replaced the slave cylinder trying to troubleshoot my clutch problem tho. so im debating spending more money unless its REALLY worth it.
