How many KMs before timing belt/water pump replace?

The previous owner was a genius and lost the car manual.

The manual states that @120K miles you should replace that belt among other things, such as spark plugs, ignition cables. The MIVEC engine also requires valve adjustments (clearance), but I haven't been able to determine if that is truely needed. My other ride is an Air-cooled VW and I adjust the valves (Intake and Exhaust) every 3k, but that's because the VW uses a flat tappet mechanical lifters.

If I'm not mistaken, the timing belt is recommended to be replaced every 60000 miles, at least that's when I replaced it.

I'd have to go with Kroelav... I'm pretty sure it even states for the 60k it be replaced. I'd do it sooner anyways, never wrong to be safe than sorry.

This is one of those "pay now, or pay more later" situations. Due to the design of our engines, should the timing belt snap whilst the engine is running, the pistons will end up in the valves, which needless to say will cost more than replacing a timing belt.

I didn't look before the 90K maintanence in the manual. I'll double check, but you are probably right, that does sound pretty late in the game. I have 93K on mine and haven't changed the belt, I should consider doing that now I suppose.

Yes, suggested timing belt change is 60K miles and then again at 120K miles. I just made an appointment to have mine done, $343 + tax, but I get a 5% discount so it should be around $350 p & l.

I'm sure I could do it myself, but heck, that's a lot of work. I'll pay for that service.

I got mine done at 60k and I noticed my engine was a lot smoother and did not shake as much. Maybe a mental thing, but reassurance my s**t won't fall apart and leave me stranded on the road is is a great feeling!

I neglected to even look at my manual on that sort of thing, should have, but just didn't think about it too much, till now I suppose. So, yup, I am happy that I'm getting it done on Thursday as well and the reassurance is what I'm looking to have.

I plan to drive the RA for a while yet.

Seeing now I got no booklet. I don't know if mine was even done at 60k. And I am at 98k now. Do I risk it goin to 120 or get it done sooner than later. Damn.
