Headers

I had a question, I am attempting to build a car that will completely pass smog. My next question in the build is what exhaust headers would be legal in california?

this is not related to forced induction at all...But i don't think your headers will make much of a difference for emissions, i would imagine the catalytic converter would probably would be more of a factor than the header, I would think a nice 4-1 stainless header would be fine (RRM, OBX, custom etc.) You could always heat wrap it too, that may help in burning off excess fuel.

Sorry I just accidentally happened to post this in this section. Would the catalytic converter be a problem because it is moved?

what do you mean moved? as long as it's there it'll do its job...it's like honeycomb of ceramic **** and other metals to reduce pollution emissions.

Yea headers won't do much if anything for emission control. The cat is what you should be looking into. As for sound if your looking into that region, headers won't make the car loud as such but a good header down pipe combo will certainly give a nice throaty sound with a little more power depending on the car.

Headers don't. New downpipe does

yeah, you can get nice 4-1 header, and downpipe, and weld in a high flow cat.

Sorry to say but all headers for our car WILL cause issues in California. No company offers a smog legal header system. I have the RRM header on my car and noone would pass the car even though it has a cat. I had to find a shady smog shop and pay a good amount to pass the car. I repeat AFTER MARKET HEADERS WILL NOT PASS IN CA.

You will automatically fail the visual if you are running an exhaust header that is not CARB approved.

How can any header cause an emissions test fail? Our car comes stock with a header. As far as the exhaust system is concerned, it is only the cat con that affects the various combustion by-product emission levels.
