trenton huh... that's sorta ghey. lol i'm not in a bind, i just have an intake coming and would like to eliminate the rubber/plastic elbow with an alluminum peice. no big deal. i can find something somewhere around here.
lots of guys on ebay sell individual aluminum bends in 2.5" is most common...or maybe try a performance shop, that's domestic, and just cut to fit...it's not boost so you won't need the bead on the end of the pipe.

Around 80m...or approximately 260 feet, and it was a little warmer than 20 degrees celcius, so 68F maybe low 70's for you Americans. So pretty cool.

Hey, you're just about there there with the new design, just cut the downpipe a little shorter to raise up the filter so the filter will tuck in to the enclosed still air box behind the fog light. You also have to drill a hole thru the vertical plastic side panel to get the pipe to stick into there (see my how-to).

I'm still pissed I missed Shannonville. Thanks for reporting!

Nick, i don't want to be cutting anything as this is the stuff i'm using for the turbo, and i'll be damned if i come up short somewhere cause i cut it for a cold air intake, lol! That being said, i have found a solution, sort of...I can pull the filter up behind the bumper by flexing the silicone couplers slightly, however it causes the lower rad hose to rest on the pipe, so the intake pipe gets pretty hot, but for what it's worth, it sounds really mean, i mean the MIVEC tramsition crack is very audible, and then it happens again around 6k rpm, and it is F'ing loud. LOL!

October 7th is the last open 1/4 mile of the season, and it falls on a friday this time, as it's usually a saturday.

I was bored today, (as im still laid off) but i wanted to experiment. I threw together a temporary cold air intake rather than my cheapo throw together sri. and wow what a difference in sound. Does everyones cold air intake make your driver side floor vibrate at high rpms? mine did lol but i took it back off becuase of well its still winter but performance was noticeable along with the awesome new sound!!

yeah, for some reason the increased length of pipe made a gnarly growling sound briefly at MIVEC, and again around 6,000rpm...

yeah its an awesome sound! haha i wonder if there is a deifference in sound with @.5 inch compared to three inch... Hmmm i was using left over 3 inch intercooler pipe dad had left from his recent swap he did the past few weeks.

where was the MAF? the MAF is too small for 3" pipe...if you want to remove intake restrictions you need speed density..

well i still have the stock rubber elbow off of the throttle body, then there is a cheap spectre adapter from the 2.5-3 inch pipe. so its still the stock MAF in the stock location.

then the size of piping doesn't matter, what really counts is where you draw the air from, and how much it's dropping your IAT...

Yeah, do not suck in engine compartment air, this will reduce power. As mentioned in my how-to post, there is a large enclosed area in the wheel-well behind the drivers-side fog light that will provide cool air without being exposed to water splash.

the one down side to using the 3 inch pipe though was the tight fit between the radiator hose and the battery box thing. it made it tricky to stick the elbow piece down and around threw there. I will probably fool with different techniques when more funds return.
anyway, your saying that the 3 inch versus the 2.5 wont make a difference in sound? just curious..

oh, in sound? yeah probably, the sound waves will propagate different through a larger diamter pipe...
