Anyone using a SPEC clutch?
Anyone using a SPEC clutch?
My release bearing has been causing some ruckus for the last little while, and I noticed my clutch slipping a little bit a few weeks ago. As soon as I can get the timing belt in (2 more weeks of school!!) it will definitely be time for a new clutch.
Been shopping around, I'm shying away from ACT solely because seems as though it's hit or miss on how well the ACT clutches holds up in our cars. I was leaning towards a Clutchmasters as well, and then came across the SPEC stage 1 clutch.
I tried to search this out in the 04-06 Ralliart forum, this is all I could pretty much find (from 2006..)
Does anyone have any feedback on these clutches? The product itself seems legit enough.
Here is the product website page
Ebay link.
I may also be looking toward adding a lightweight flywheel (or lightening the current one, not sure yet) so if anyone has any suggestions for good compatibility between lightweight flywheels and clutches please feel free to chip in your .02
I've heard the Fidanza for our cars is kind of shotty? Lakuzard has an AASCO for sale in the classifieds, do you think this SPEC and the AASCO would mate up alright, or are these kinds of things specifically engineered in pairs for one another?
Thanks.

It was diagnosed and adjusted. it's not the pedal misadjustment, it's the clutch disc or pressure plate
Maybe you didn't read past the title of this thread, but how about read my thread. I even posted a nice link for you to click to go directly there

^ you linked to a post haha.
This?
Your thread says you had a SPEC stage 2 in there for awhile, I picked up a clutchmasters but how did that thing drive for you?

I liked the Spec stage 2. only problems I had with it was a huge amount of loud chatter when engaging the clutch. otherwise I like the heavy pedal feel. Stealership put in a stock one when they decided to rebuild my transmission and mess up the rest of the car (if you feel like searching for the thread...) but otherwise no blowups or catastrophic failures. I wouldn't get it again simply because I don't want the embarrassing chatter
What I have said is that I don't know if my ClutchMasters clutch is defective or not, but I am having very random instances of disengagement problems, and it's not the hydraulics.
I have no experience with ACT other than what I have read (and what you have also read). Cranswick has an ACT and has no problems with it. Most people don't have problems with ClutchMasters but I did.
I didn't have any problems with the SPEC other than the chatter, and I would have gotten another one if I didn't mind the chatter. But that was the Stage2, stage 1 might be alright.
I have no experience with LW flywheels.
If I could do it all over again I would just do with the OEM parts.
I guess i didnt care to read because I have no interest in reading about a shi**Y clutch or your terrible experience with it.
Exedy stage 1 HD
Exedy twin HD
Quarter master 8 leg
Exedy triple HD
Tilton
If you cant afford to buy the proper parts - then that's your problem.

I will save you some time on research, there are no applications for our cars (04-06 Lancer 2.4L) with any of these clutches listed

the only clutch that Exedy makes for our cars (04-06 Lancer 2.4L) is the Exedy OEM, which I have read isn't that great of quality compared to OEM (even though Exedy/daikin makes the clutches for OEM) [The materials quality for the exedy oem is apparently not on part with the factory oem]

If you order from mitsubishiparts.net, the OEM parts are all cheaper than the EXEDY OEM kit.
Hope this is useful information to you
I will add, Rockauto.com price for the EXEDY OEM which includes the disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing (and alignment tool) with shipping to XXgina (I assume that's the city that rhymes with fun) is $279.78USD shipped
Mitsubishiparts.net price for the Factory OEM stuff which includes: the pressure plate MR980571; the disc MN168062; and the release bearing MD749998 is $263.64USD shipped, the only thing that wont come with it is the alignment tool.
Is there any reason why you would like an aftermarket clutch?

Overall looking for a more solid and performance oriented clutch engagement. I've driven one ralliart with an aftermark clutch (ACT) and I really liked the way it drove, but it blew up on the poor guy a short while down the road. I know it's different but the VIII I was looking to buy had what I believe was an ACT 6 puck and after getting to take that thing out for days at a time I really liked how that clutch drove as well.
My clutch has been worn since I bought the car, but I'd like a little more grab then what OEM can give me. I'm out of school now which means once I'm back to work full time I can finally cam it out, been waiting to do that for some time now. On top of that I'd really like to run FI later down the road. May as well beef it up a little while I can. Not moving into a stage 2 just in case I don't go turbo and won't need that kind of clutch.
I'll be using an OEM release bearing, so thanks for the part #'s, the CM stage one and am currently deciding on a flywheel at the moment.
Used to auto-x, til I broke some stuff and then maintenance and school got in the way... if I get back in to that I 'd like to know the clutch can handle a little more abuse.
And it's Regina
