Starting Problems

I haven't seen an exact pattern yet....most times when I start my car, it starts perfect/normal and right away.....but every once in awhile, maybe once or twice a week, it takes a little while to turn over....and for about 5 seconds it just makes the "starting" noise for lack of better description....anyone else experiencing this??

Upgrade your battery. Cold crank amps are important. Although it's undoubtedly colder here (-10 degree wind chill) even a mild morning like 40 to 50 can cause the electrical system to strain when cranking.

Of course, since the car is brand new, and thus under warranty, you could just see if the dealer finds something wrong.

If you decide to check for a battery, go for something like the Optima yellow top. You won't have to replace it anytime soon, and they work even better if you have a system in the car.

Mine does the same exact ****. I'm glad It's not just me. I wasn't sure what it was. It seems to do it when It's "dewey" outside and really cold. And just like you said 99% of the time it starts perfectly fine and right when I turn the key. And then there's that once a week where it takes a second to turn over as if I'm driving a car 20 years old.

i haven't experienced that problem, and i hope i don't, but i do agree that it could be the gas. i have had problems with other cars when putting cheaper gas in. chevron, texaco, and 76 have done good by me so far.

I've never had any problem's with starting my car, and it started right up yesterday when it was -3 degrees outside.

I've definately noticed this problem as of late seeing as how is buck *** cold up here right now. The question I've got surrounding this subject is has any grounded thier RA yet? If so which kit did you go with because i've noticed alot of 'dimming' lately.

gas station issue...i have used the same 2/3 Chevron stations, mid grade for my past 3 cars in the last two years and never had any problems....so, i don't think it is that....

dimming...i notice dimming when i have the defroster on, fog lights on, and the radio up (i have the sun/sound package).....and the rpm's tend to dip low sometimes....not sure if that really needs to be fixed or improved upon yet....

Are you sure about the 4.9? Man that time is just a little slower than the STI by a few 10ths.....come one now. We all know the STI is also faster than the EVO in a straight line stock for stock. I know the RA is NOT out sprinting the EVO in a 0-60 run (average Ive seen is around or a liitle less than 5.4). My spyder can run a 0-60 in about 5.6 secs. This was timed on a HKS turbo timer that was hot wired directly to my speedo..so it should be somewhat accurate. This time was at full weight, 2 people and a full trunk of tools. The sprint was done off of a wide street shoulder with gravel so for a little while my tire was spinnig not able to get a good grip. Not to mention I was not going in a straight line...had to merge back on the road. So I would say around the neighborhood of 5.5. On my old G-tech it was always in this neighbor hood also. So seeing the car does a 6.5 stock 0-60 with the mods I got ticking off another sec isn't too far off. I just dont see a 160hp car that weighs about 200lbs less is gonna be topping that. You can use the weight excuse BUT we are both FWD and Im putting significantly more power to the ground than you are at the crank. Well anyways...Good luck with your RA !

Dude relax. he has a typo on the times. The article was in motor trend, doa search you will get endless debate on all those times, some believers, some disbelievers, but the 0-60 time was 6.9, not 4.9. The car ran 1.9 from 0-30 and that was what pretty much set the car aprt from the other cars in the test. The time that was important in this thread was the point of a 14.9 1/4 mile. I personally think its possible, but it would have to be PERFECT EVERYTHING to do it. But that is another discussion already beat to death.

1. Notice the smiles and wink at the end of the post I wrote? I was telling him to fix his typo......jokingly.
2. I know very well about the articles that were released by motortrend, car and driver, and also road and track (I have the issues).
3. I was a part of the earlier posts you are referring too.
4. We were having a fine discusion, no flaming here between us, just chatting.
5. He still did not aknowledge the typo becuase..he stated: "I didn' t run that, thats what the car can supposdly do"
6. YOU need to relax.
