Tranny Popp.! sound from 1-2 shift.

We'll my RA has 1300 miles on it and sinse new I noticed how easy is to take out 1st gear without pressing the clutch. When I'm driving slowly but with load(up-a cliff or speeding) and try to shift smothly from 1st to 2nd the car seems to pop the gear to 2nd. I just want to know if this is normal on our cars or my car has a defect in a sincro. I am really concern sinse I havent raced the car yet and I know that later I might get problems with the car.. Anyone noticed this..?

Thanx

T-rush..

Mine seems to shift kind of rough before it is warm. But I have noticed that it really wants to pop out of 1st. I am not going to worry about it for now because it doesn't seem to be causing a problem, it has not prevented me from shifting or anything.

Yeah that's it. It's almost like it shifts for you.

Yeah, i've noticed that too.....if you don't want the "pop" you really have to get the RPM's up and then it shifts very nice into 2nd.....also, xstephenx, i agree....if my car is not warmed up and it's cold outside, shifting is a pain...whiplash like.....and i hate to push an engine much when it's cold......speaking of shifting.....i'm still not fully used to my car, and i do push it very hard, but does anyone else constantly red line in first???.....i guess i redline because there is still so much power available that i don't feel it's time to shift yet....who knows....i also get a lot of wheel hop out of first when i'm not on a flat ground, turning, or the road is wet.....wow.....after all that, i feel sorry for my car....

Thanx. I am somewhat relief now that you guys have the same "feel" on the tranny maybe it's normal.. About the red line I think the car shoul benefit from a higher one maybe 7200rpms. The engine seems to pull hard from 5K-up.! and drops of the powerband in the 1-2 shift. If the e-manage can modify the rpm-limiter I'll buy one tomorow..

Try to double clutch if you are staying in the lower rpms, it really works for those of you how to do it!

double clutching is what I have been doing lately when it is majorly cold(~0-5F) but other than that it shifts fine.

i have been experiencing the "pop" out of first gear. I haven't been noticing it latley. ever since around 5500-6000 miles it hasn't really phased me. either it has gone away or i am used to it now

I'm probably the worst one on the forum to explain this. I never owned a MT in my life, but here is the concept:

When down shifting, you want to to get the engine RPMs to where they would be after the down shift. This is done in neutral. Do it quickly enough and you come out with better control and a smoother ride.

Here is a better explanation:

I hope this helps! I also hope I get my new MT RA in a few months so I can ditch my AT ES (even tho i still luv it!)

I had "pop out" from 1st gear when I first got my RA..... I have over 4K now and it doesn't do it any more. Only the first 2 thousand I found this happening. Cold weather really seems to affect the shifting compared to some of my other manuals....but once its warm...its smooth

I am now over 7k miles and i had the pop happen again. this has been the first time in around 2k miles. it was cold out and i didn't let my car warm up very long, so that might be a factor.
