Car won't start. Fuh
I had a busted positive terminal that gave me similar issues. Regular bumps and weight shift in the car while driving would dislodge something, the car would stay running, but once I parked and shut it off and came back to it, the car would pooch out.
The first time this happened I came back to the car after being at the store or something, the car didn't even click when the key was turned over. I figured it had something to do with the charging system right away so I switched the lights to on as an indicator, wiggled the terminal(s) until my lights turned on, and then started my car. That positive connector was either really weak and corroded where it strapped around the post, or just got overtightened and broke. Either way, I only let that happen a few times before getting around to replacing the terminal.
Maybe his alternator is shot and wasn't letting the car keep running at idle..?

^its a possibility...
if the alternator goes out and the car is already running it'll keep on for a bit till the battery goes dead enough and the car just dies..
like i said before tho, check charging and starting system....dont wanna be stuck somewhere randomly...if u could check it before it's entirely dead...
