Not having that return to center spring hooked up correctly made third and fourth harder to select while on the fly. Not all that great for wolf, whose just learning to drive a manual.

 

yeah, for a learner in a new car, that would be a nightmare...

 

Found the source of my shifter not returning to center, it's on the control housing, but the good news is, it's not inside the transmission, and can be fixed with the tranny still in the car...pics, details and fix to follow...

 

In my car, it was just the brass cable bushings getting corroded and seizing on the center pins. A little spray of penetrating oil freed them up.

 

ok, i lied, i didn't get pictures, cause after i put the transmission back together i put it in the car the same day, so i appologize, but mine was the left right selector, or the lever with the small bushing, what was happening was the hinge was seized, so left/right motions (in and out on the control housing) were very stiff, and it was the hinge of the lever that was sticking, so basically you pull the black plastic cover off the hinge, take the nut and 2 washers off, hammer it apart if you have to, and i sanded the rust off the center shaft lubed the plastic bushing sleeves, and put it back together and the shifter is now smoother than ever...

 

Missed this thread, I made this mistake while installing mine but I knew something was up right away so I went back in after putting the whole thing back together
