Question Ralliart 2006, No crank intermittent

Hi there! I have a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 2006 manual transmission, 4g69 stock, A/C and remote start.

First of all, I tried to find solution in old threads but they were all left unsolved or not enough similar problem to mine.

I was getting random intermittent no crank issue for last 6 months, now it does happens way more often.

I get the P0335 Crankshaft Position sensor code.
While turning key, you can hear the relay and sound like a fuel pump.

I just replaced the starter.
I tried to unplug the CKP sensor, it would still do the problem (or just crank no start).

Here is what I found out; if you put the car in first gear, hold the clutch, move the car 1 feet and release the clutch; most of time I could crank and start again.

Anyone had this problem before or could help me with this?
Thanks! Much appreciated!
Michael

if you're holding the clutch pedal down, and it's in gear, that's still almost like neutral, so turning the wheels shouldn't be turning the engine...however, It probably did move a little bit, and you probably need to replace the sensor.

Crans, if you remove the timing cover is the crank position sensor right there beside the belt?

yes, the sensor is in the lower timing cover next to the crankshaft, DIYers beware: there are a couple bolts on the lower timing cover that are hidden a little bit...it should come off with little effort...

I do release it while the car is still moving, so it does move a little bit.
At first I thought the starter would get stuck in the flywheel and by doing this it would go back in place.

I read that if the CKP sensor would need replacement, you would get a crank no start or rought idle problem.

Mine wont crank like 30% of time but when I manage to crank, the car start and runs fine.

Thanks you!
Michael

check sensing blade condition...might as well replace the sensor while the cover is off...

Alright just for the update that may help others, I replaced the sensor and all timing belts components and the problem is gone. The balancer shaft belt was cracked all over and was kinda loose but still well timed.
The sensor was dirty but I bought a Beck Arnley one for 55$ CAN at Rockauto and replaced it. Sensing Blades on crankshaft are fine.
Thank you!

good thing it didn't let go...when I does, it gets jammed up in the valve timing belt, causing it to fail as well...i'll say it again, change your timing belts on time, boy and girls!

Yea I started removing the damn balance shafts... That tiny belt is a pain in the ***. On top of doing everything on time. Make sure you properly torque every single bolt down. Maybe even use a bit of locktite.

I did use the shop manual and torque everything to the right spec. The Gates timing belt kit did came with some instructions and torque specs.
This one is from my Ralliart 2006, replaced in 2016 with about 113000 KM.
I replaced the water pump, thermostat and the spark plugs as well.

I did not use locktite, but I think it's a great idea.
Thank you

gates belts have been known to fail prematurely, keep your eye on it.
