Yep, it was the inspection plate. Drove a little over 1k miles on it this weekend over some mountains, no leaks. As far as the other part, I smeared some over the crack lol. So far so good.
did you just smear it on the outside or did you have to take it off and apply it?

You're supposed to remove the cover to create a gasket.

The inspection plate was removed and done properly, and i didn't want to pull apart the transmission for the other little spot and couldn't tell if that was the issue. So for the bottom part I had just done a couple thin layers over that connection area, trying to force it into any cracks with a card scraper. There was no visible leaking after that for over a year, then I sold it. Never heard he had any issues with it.
