Ralliart vs WRX (advice)

Hey everyone,

Im new to this board and would like some advice. Im being given a choice between two cars, and don't know which one to choose.

There is a 2004 Lancer Ralliart and a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX. Now, by default, the WRX would kill the Ralliart, but there are a few twists:

The pros of the Lancer: The color I want (silver), really fun drive, really light, great gear box, very responsive, very torquey ride, lowered suspension, tinted windows, 310watt sound system with 8" sub, Evo wing, cold air intake, Magnaflow exhaust (deep beautiful sound. you can hear an example of it by clicking HERE - from the RRM website-. its better to "save target as" onto your computer),... and I love Mitsubishis.

The pros of the WRX: 237HP, AWD, way faster than the Lancer, much safer than the Lancer, looks exactly like the STi with hood scoop and everything, and generally a great car.

The cons of the Lancer: 165HP, FWD, Im not sure if I really like the window tinting.

The cons of the WRX: The car is heavier, not as fun as the Lancer to drive, all stock parts, and...(here it comes)...its Red!! yuck!

Both cars are about $450 a month incl. tax.

So what do I do? Im stuck. Is there more about the WRX that I don't know that would make it a better deal? Im very much leaning towards the Lancer, but Im just not sure.

Lemme know what you freaks think.

WRX hass more name sake than the lancer. i remember in 2001 when the WRX was the hottest on the block and every mag was bowing down to the WRX, man have things changed. anyway WRX all the way, IMHO. if i had the same choice i would be going with the SCOOBY (color sucks tho)

You'll learn to like the red when you're handing RAs thier asses. Plus you get to mod it yourself and you don't have to figure out which dumpster you're gonna throw all that stereo stuff into.

my $0.02

Well the advert says 237. When I spoke to them, they seemed like they have no idea what a car is. So, this was probably just a mistake. Let's assume its 227.

Here is a picture of the car

So, no one here thinks I should go for the Ralliart? (I don't have a pic of it, but it has a lot of nice mods).

was going to buy a rex but when i test drove it, i wasn't really too impressed, but i guess once you start modding, even just doing the intake makes a huge difference, so u prob get the rex, much easy to get hp out of.

what are your plans? do you plan on doing any more work to either? The RA is a great base if you do, but still FWD. How many miles on each (like it matters). Will you realisticly need the AWD (IE: do you have lots of snow or do you live in the hills)? daily driver or toy car (or both)?

hahaha...oh yea...Im from Canuckistan (Canada), so $450CAN/mo is $365US/mo.

And yes, its snowy here (Toronto), so AWD is a blessing. It will be a very daily driving car (about 2000km min. a month).

And yes, I plan to modify it over time. But, man...red just SUX!

The rex is the better car of the two due to the AWD system and the factory turbo giving it a much greater "tuner" advantage. The downside to the scoobie is that the engine is a ***** to work on (my dad has one) and parts are a bit pricier for it, however it's worth those trade-offs. I do hear ya on the red though, I can't stand red. Stock vs. stock they only put about 30 more hp to the ground than the Ralliart, (lots of drivetrain loss) however their launches are much better again due to the AWD.

My only question is why are the payments nearly the same, the subie costs about 6k more than the RA!
