I'll post some tips later on... there are a few things to be careful for.....

 

a6 projector = $120
BMW 3 series ballast with new 4300 k bulbs = $205
9007 wiring harness = $75

as for the wiring harness, you can get it cheaper if u want, but then you are risking burning your OEM wires which can cost upwards of $$$$ to fix it and no your warranty will not cover it since u f@#k around with it. so, don't go cheap here.

anyway, the cost is $400 even. you can spend more if you want better projectors like a s2000 projectors. projectors can range anywhere between $100 to $250 depending on the output and color that you want and also, if you want bi-xenon meaning high beams as well as low beams. i out for low beams only because they are bright as hell already. but, it is nice to have high beam if u are from a woodise place with no city lights.

as for the ballasts, depending on how new they are and the brand, price ranges the same as well with the projectors. don't settle for cheap here. or else, you might be kicking your self in the a$$. remember, you pay for what u get.

bulbs, depending on d2s or d2r...http://faqlight.carpassion.info/hl-hid-bulbs.htm...this website will tell u the difference between them. the price range for those are $50 to $80. if people are selling u for more..then, it's a ripped off...IMO. if u are in for the color, then, get 5000k plus temp setting bulbs, but these bulbs are NOT made by german companys, but hid kits from taiwan or some asian country. but, if u are in for the output, then 4100 to 4300k are good and those two (4100-4300k) are what audi, BMW, etc. are usng as OEM bulb settings.

hidplanet.com (http://www.hidplanet.com/package.htm) sells two whole kits. one for $399 plus shipping and the other, $435 + shipping. or you can go to the FS forum (http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=5) and find better deals there.


i recommand this webpage http://faqlight.carpassion.info/ do ur reading before hand. and, know what you are getting urself into before you really go forward with the idea. it's a lot of work and money involved. and, if u screwed up ur headlights buy drilling the wrong hold or by putting it in the oven too long or what not, then, you will have to buy a new headlight unit from mitsu dealer or from a private sale which can cost $$$. but, at the end, you will be happy with the results.

if money is no object to u, then, u can have someone do it for u. i know that some people are charging $300plus. since i have the tools already for it, i'm thinking about starting a HID retro service. not sure what the price that i would charge people. if i have enough people interested in it...then, i might. what do u guys think?

anyway, i will post more pics when the sun goes down.

 

i have been quoted around 500-600 for just labor alone, so i decided to do it myself. HIDplanet's forums have a few DIY stickies, as well as a DIY for the Wire harness.

it's kewl that u r doing this project along with me, but independently.

did u make ur own wire harness? and where did u tuck ur ballasts and wires?

 

I still have to make a harness. thats this weekend when i do the other light. I am still trying to figure out thr best place for the ballast. right now it's infrom of the battery next to the coolant resivoir. I have mitsubishi ballast and they are tanks compared to others i have seen.

 

yeah...those are nice ballasts..nice and small. i placed my ballast near the battery too, but under neath it. if u recalled..there is a metal bar running acroos the batter to the front chasis. i drilled two holds and place the ballast there. as for the passager side, i place along the bar from the other side near the passenger fog light. u can't see the ballast when u open up my hood. it's well hidden. and, as for the wires..it's nice tuck away too with ziplock ties and tape.

i thought about making a harness, but i didn't trusted myself with that project. so, i order one insted through auto-lighting online from the UK. their harness works like a charm...simple plug and play. and they are run through the battery with each ballast having it's oown wire harness. so, if one blows up..i still have another light running. as oppose to two ballasts connecting to one wire.

one question for u, how do u do the horizontal aiming through our headlights? i know that the vertical aiming is through a screw in the back of the headlights. but, where is the horizontal aiming screw? can't see to find it. so, if u or anyone else else knows, please let me know.

 

what are the sizes of the stock headlamps?

 

I had to dremel off the cover to the Horizontal aiming screw. There are 2 security bolts or something holding it on.

Be very careful that you dont over tighten the screw. i did and it broke the place that holds it at the reflector. but JBWELD fixed that for me. i love that stuff
