that and they are usually DOHC heads, and make less torque

That's always the tradeoff with smaller capacity NA engines, isn't it? Strong low-rpm torque and not the highest peak horsepower (RA), or high horsepower at high rpm and gutless down low (Civic si).

Lots of DOHC yes, different torque characteristic, maybe less area under the curve at lower rpm (haven't had the pleasure), but same peak torque and at a higher rpm.

The particular engine I was thinking of when I posted was the 2.4 L in the older TSX.
Same peak torque as a 4G69, but 500 rpm later and 40 bhp more.
Higher compression, similar long stroke, needs 91.

DOHC in itself is not an advantage apart from less stress by having only half the valves acting on a given camshaft.
I mean you could make any camshaft to have whatever lobes you want and have the intake and exhaust separation at anything you could achieve with vernier sprockets yeah ?

This week I was day dreaming of the Clio RS 200. 200bhp, @ 7300 or so, same peak torque as a 4G69, but 500 rpm later and it's a 2.0 L.

Kia has tossed out a 2.4L recently I think, haven't checked it out yet though.

Lol I give some respect to Kia, my aunt has the first gen sorento, horrendous. The new Optima Turbo is pretty fun to drive

with DOHC you can balance the valve timing between intake and exhaust seperately.

10.5 pistons, cams, cam gear, intake, exhaust, header, head, intake manifold, test pipe, tune... err piggy back. And you'll be at just about the 200ish range.

Thats what she said... >_> <_< :P

They can maker higher HP numbers on newer cars now with a similar inline-4 but its hard to find a car nowadays that makes as much instant torque as this car does. And a lot of cars have some form of variable valve timing now but Ive yet to feel one that gives you the kick in the pants the way the mivec does. My friend had a vtec and i barely noticed any difference when it kicked in...

Now if only I could take our torque base, apply a DOHC for better timing, and then turbo it... mmmm... that'd be nice... *evil grin*

Kia's ick. Driven a Rondo before, nice family SUV, not my cup of tea though. The Ford fusion however looks like one beautiful car. The body design is superb.

Not many cars in N/A have the low gearing that our Ralliarts have.
That really enhances perceived torque and responsiveness.

I was thinking of the Forte, not the Rondo
2.4L 173 @ 6000, 168 @ 4000
Their site also says 10.5 to 1 compression.

I dont see it there but I would guess that's with 87 octane.
