New Ralliart has Problems

Hey guys, I've been following these forums for quite awhile now but now I've got something to post about.

I just picked up a 2005 Ralliart two weeks ago and I'm having a whole host of problems with it. The alignment is off (if I make a left lane change, I can let go of the wheel and the car will right itself in the lane), the brake calipers are corroded, the car shakes when it idles, the weatherstripping on my front driver and passenger side doors is loose and the passenger side front seat is hard to move forwards and backwards.

So I took it into the dealership to have them take a look at this and they say it's all normal. On top of that, they refused to fix any of it and said that all of it (with the exception of the alignment) was not covered under their warranty.

Now here's my question, have any of you guys run into any of these problems? Is this normal for the Ralliart or is the dealer just giving me the runaround? The only thing that really concerns me is the shaky idling. During this break-in period I haven't even let the car go past 3500RPMs yet.

Thanks ahead of time for your input.

I've had my 04 for almost a year, and I am lightly modded. I have a slightly rough idle, but nothing to be worried about. I invested in a grounding kit and have yet to install it. As for the weather stripping, I installed the Lancer door sill strips, and the driver side one kinda chewed up the bottom weatherstripping, but nothing as you described.

I saw a thread on here somewhere about calling your local District rep, or something to that matter. Basically calling the head of Mitsubishi for the dealerships in your area, and talking to them. Let them know how you have been treated thus far and see what they will work out for you. They are usually much easier to deal with than the dealership who for some reason really does seem like they are always avoiding work.

None of those problems for me either. All 4 cylinders tend to be a little rough at idle, but with the RA you have to really sit and try to feel it. Others have had the alignment problem, I haven't. As for the window seals etc, that's quality control ****. You sure this car wasn't in an accident? Dealers have been known to do that, things like the window seals point me to an accident.

Yeah, go to the top...
You paid for a product that has fallen short of what you would expect/what you deserve... I'd definitely get in contact w/ someone that has authority above your dealership!

Sorry to be the resident old-timer here, but did you try searching for these issues first?

Alignment Problem: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=59611

A somewhat rough idle should be normal for this car, especially when it warms up first thing in the morning, but an excessively rough one should be looked at.

Most brake calipers 'corrode.' Can you post a pic of the corrosion? Mine have a whitish build-up on them, but this is normal.

When you say that the front seat is hard to move, do you mean that it takes excessive force to do it, or is it just jerky? Because these seats can be a little jerky with regards to moving them back and forth. But as far as the weather stripping goes, that may be a problem. Mine has been good since Jan '04.

Which dealer are you going to?

By the way, welcome as a new member. Didn't mean to give you a hard time on your first post, just normal senior member etiquette. Hope to see you around more!

I had that as well, also the left side; it ended up being either my tire pressure, or just slightly incorrect alignment, or both. Either way, recently this went away, and I'm not sure if it will come back, but I think it was just a tire pressure problem, because it was really bad this one time, so I inflated the tires to 35psi, took it back on the highway and everything seemed more or less fine.

Calipers or rotors? It is normal for rotors (round metal things) to have a bit of rust in the morning; it wears off once you use the brakes a few times. If it is actually the calipers, which part of them? This should be covered under warranty.

Mine idles somewhat roughly in the morning (no mods), I told the techs at the dealership and they said it was fine... It gets better when the car warms up though. Depends how roughly. What cars did you drive before, if any? If you're used to a Cadillac, then the Ralliart might seem like it's too in-your-face for a while ;-)

No problem with that, but I've heard people complaining. Ask the dealership to at least attach it better, if they refuse to fix it.

Mine is hard to move when I try to do it from the driver's seat. I think it's just because you're trying to move it at an awkward angle. Move the driver's seat when you're sitting in it, then move the passenger seat while sitting in it; does it feel different? It shouldn't, and if it does, it might simply need some lube.

If you have any problems, don't hesitate to ***** at your dealer; they have your money and they're happy, so it is your job to make sure that they didn't sell you a piece of crap. Hopefully you'll resolve these issues and become another satisfied Ralliartian

Edit: wee, 100 posts

problems common? no
Dealer common? yes
Most Mitsu dealers won't warranty anything if they think they can get away with it.

Wow, thanks so much for the replies guys. It's great to see that I've joined a community who is really receptive of newcomers.

I'm taking the advice about contacting the District Rep. I bought it from Norco Mitsubishi (an hour outside of LA) and they've been a real pain to deal with.

And to answer about the brakes, it's definitely the calipers. And sorry about not searching the forums before hand, I figured I had a huge laundry list of problems and just wanted to see if anyone else had the same issues.

Corroded? Is it just when it rains? cause youll get that nasty brown color on the rotors, but after a coupla stops it disappears.

no no, it's almost like the top coat is peeling away. I've had rotors in the past so I kind of had an idea of what to expect in terms of wear and tear
