I found this on google! It seems believable

Power shifting is a driving technique employed by drivers who wish to push the limits of their cars. Generally used in drag races to decrease the overall amount of time that it takes a car to travel one quarter mile. Power shifting is most effective for the 2nd to 3rd shift and the 3rd to 4th shift, depending on the number of gears your transmission has and how close they are (ratio wise).

To power shift you must have a manual transmission. After you've found a car with a manual transmission and assuming you've launched your car and are traveling at speed. Wait until the car's RPMs are nearing the redline then quickly depress the clutch and shift to the next gear as fast as possible without taking your foot off the gas. Note that you might not want to leave the gas floored but closer to half throttle, timing here is crucial. Once you have placed the transmission in the proper gear, dump the clutch and floor the gas again. If you wait too long to release the clutch your engine will over rev or hit the rev limiter (provided your car has one). This is a potentially dangerous maneuver as YOU CAN BLOW UP YOUR ENGINE if you miss the gear, rev the engine too high or for too long. If executed sucessfully your car will bolt ahead as your engine screams back into it's power band.

hm.......definetely seems like something that should not be done with any car especially one made for EVERYDAY DRIVING NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH EVERYDAY RACING, they're production cars guys not racecars launching at lights and power shifting are not good things for the cars

I can't believe 3 pages have been written on arguing what such a simple, not to mention old as the hills, concept commonly referred to as "powershifting" really is LOL...and it is as described in that google post above. There is no room for interpretation...that is simply what it is LOL! Ask ANYONE who's spent way too much time at drag strips over the years...including me

And yes, even when executed correctly, it is extremely hard on driveline components especially synchros and clutches...not to mention transmission mounts *L* Ask me how I know that too!

Wow... everytime I stroll in this sub-forum, I always see horrible information posted...

Not that anyone will believe me over anyone else, but for all you people who think power shifting is shifting gears without the clutch are HORRIBLEY WRONG.

Power Shifting = No Lift Shifting = Flat Foot Shifting

It's simply shifting gears without ever removing your foot from the gas pedal. This is usually done with some sort of 2-step rev-limiter. This is also usually only done in turbo-application cars as it is very beneficial to them. Never letting off the gas pedal allows the TB to stay open, consistantly maintaining revs and most importantly, boost, in between shifts. In conjuction with a 2-step launch controller, this is a very easy way to shave a few 10th's of a second off of your ET at the drag strip.

well hiheatEVO heres an explantion because you seem pretty slow.

Just like blacklab wrote the answer is correct and 3 pages for a topic is completely mundane.

I was attempting to end the topic before it got to the point of someone (you) saying something completely stupid.

yes i'm slow(with my bachelors in chemistry) along with my car and my bike...still not as slow as your OZ.

if you look at my very first post, i was speaking from a moto riders point of view because i suspected a power shift on a car would be the same as the bike is...apparently it isn't. i'm sorry i wasted EVERYONE's time.

Wow you are my hero your fast car and bike make you so much cooler then everyone else. I wish I could be you, all us OZ owners wish we could.

Dood you need to grow up. Dont take swings at people if you cant take them back. And on a side note Mr im better then everyone else; a power shift on a bike is done the exact same as the method posted from Dion maybe if you took some time to learn to ride and drive you would know what your talking about and wouldn't sound like a fool.

BTW - Your schooling means absolutely **** on a car forum, use your bachelors degree to figure out your chemical imbalance and save us the wasted time of reading a flame post which shouldn't be there in the first place.

first of all you called me slow, so i joke about your car

second of all you started to flame by calling me stupid, you don't even know me...

third of all power shifting on a bike is not using the clutch, so perpetuate this ignorance some more. no lift shift on a bike and you're on your @$$. Most drag bikes use electronic shifters and if you want to know how those work i'd be glad to pm you about it.

i'm not a biochemist, i do not figure out chemical imbalances...it does help to be a chemist when we've discussed race fuels in the past and fuel ignition, but it's not required.

*edit* you tell me to grow up? why don't you contribute to the conversation and quit attacking me personally.
