Got popped: ticket help?
Yup... Lawyers work magic. That's why I'm not in jail.
Rule Number One...Never admit to anything.
Most people don't know this, but round here you can ask to see the radar.
If it's not locked, and you haven't admitted to anything yet. They can't write you up.
I got out of a ticket this way before. I passed a cop in the opposite direction, he pulled a Uie. Asked if I knew why he pulled me over. I said "I have no idea" He said "I got you going 15 over." Isaid "No way! I could swear I was going the speed limit" He said " you were going well over, in front of the school too". I said "I don't believe it. Can I see you're radar.?" At this point he put his ticket stub back in his pocket and completely lost all agresion in his tone of voice and said, "Acually, I didn't get it locked in... I gonna be nice and let you go. Slow down from now on. And you might want to get you're speedometer checked out. " He actually offed to clock me as I drove by in order to check it out. I told him I had to go. Maybe later.
Anyways, Don't admit and ask to see the radar.
If you get caught, get a lawyer.

Thanks for all of the replies.
What I did:
I was at a stoplight at the front of the line, turning left. I've been testing out my rear anti-sway bar lately, trying to get the feel for it. So at the green I punched it and kinda took the turn fast... tires squealing a bit. Then I accelerated in 2nd up to 60 and took my foot off the gas, pushed in the clutch and just coasted to the next light. Then I saw him behind me... coasting up on his bike. "Next time you decide to drive like a moron make sure there aren't two cops sitting across the intersection from you."
Put on the ticket "Approx Speed 58 mph in a 40 mph zone." "Exhibtion of speed".
Looks like a lawyer may be the way to go on this one.

I don't know what the law read in Arizona, but the word "approximate" leaves a lot of wiggle room. I am also unaware of motorcycle cops donning radar equipment, unless he had a hand-held device, which he didn't because he used the word "approximate." Unless he trapped your speed on a radar device, I would think you're case is open to debate. If I were in your situation, I would plead "not guilty," but admit to spinning your tires. It demonstrates maturity to owning up to a fault, but insist that your rapid acceleration did not mean you were speeding. I've done something similar before, and it instilled enough doubt in the judge's mind to throw the case out. Good luck.

I read online that "exhibition of speed" could be worth 8 points on your driving record in Arizona. So if I squeal my ****ing tires I get the same points as a person with a DUI? Now I'm pissed. Lawyer is a "go". I'll let you guys know how it goes.
IMO: If you were speeding (which you said that you did), live up to it. That's all there is to it. If you are indeed guilty of the crimes that they said that you committed, bite the bullet and learn from it.
Most of us speed to some degree EVERY day, whether it's 5-10 over, or 50 over. When you get caught, chalk it up as a loss, and pay the fine. Not guilty plea means exactly that. Save the horseplay for the track or autocross, and if you do decide to roost a little on the road, take the medicine that comes with it. Get a copy of that states vehicle code, and read up on the penalty for violating those specific sections, then you'll be more informed about what you're possibly looking at. Joe.
That'll be the day, guys. Just because some state sets some speed limits and then selectively enforces them to generate revenue does not mean I have to "do my duty as an American citizen" and give them my money. No, I think I'll play their game using their rules and hire me a lawyer.
I got pulled over for exhibition of speed while trying to cross three lanes pulling out of Jack in the Box on Bell Rd in order to get in the left turn lane at the light. Pulled right in front of a cop. DOH! He took 20mins to "advise" me on proper conduct and warned me of the severity of the offense, but let me go. According to him it was 1yr suspension of license and $2000 fine. But he said he could take my license and toss me in the car right there, so I don't know why they let you drive home.
Definitely lawyer time. And dig up any info you can on tire grip, open differentials and sway bar and spring physics. You could easily prove that tire slippage is not easy to avoid. Personally, I don't think you can make a left turn fast enough, in order to make the most of the short amount of time available to other cars turning left, or to get out of the way of thru traffic if there's no left turn lane. If there were no vehicles/people/animals near your path, then there was no intent nor possibility of harm to persons or property.
At only 18 over, your speeding charge is the easiest to deal with and you there's no way around it. If you can, take traffic school for that one, and defend the other charge. I have to go for an HOV violation, so maybe I'll see you there. ;-)
