Jiffy Lube Story...

So I go to this Jiffy Lube here in L.A. a couple of days ago. I pull up behind a WRX and get out. The attendant says to me in a joking voice, "So is that an Evo?". I reply, "HaHa, haven't heard that one before.".

Anyway, I tell him I want 5/30w, and he gives me this weird look and asks if I'm sure. I'm like, "Uhhh, yeah?!".

So now I'm in the waiting room and another "tech" comes in and asks why I don't want synthetic. I tell him I don't need it. Now he says quote, "Isn't that your TURBO Evo out there?".

I started laughing realizing that the first guy was serious about his Evo question. I look out the window into the bays and my hood is popped and two guys are looking into the bay. I ask the guy in front of me, "Do they see a turbo?". So, he takes me out there and one of the guys looks up and points to my AEM intake and wants to know if this is my turbo.

I had to explain to them that this is a RalliArt and not turbo'd (yet ), and that's my CAI, duh!!! They said they were confused because this model is not in their computers and it looks like an Evo and I was apparently their first RA customer ever.

Anyway, long story short, I ask for the manager and he tells me not to worry and he'll personally change my oil and give me an extra $10 off.

I have no way of changing my own oil at my current location and am just curious where you guys go?

I can't change oil at my appartment complex (thank god I am closing on my house in 4 weeks). I drive to my mom's house 30 miles away to change oil. What you might have to do is find a friend who owns a house and has a garage. That is my only suggestion. Granted I live in Minneapolis not San Diego and I don't know your situation.

It would scare me if a person working on my car didn't know how to identify basic parts under the hood.

I know I've posted up my only experience with Jiffy Lube on here, but to recap:

I was leaving on a road trip and needed to change my oil. I called the local Jiffy Lube.
They:
Didn't have the filter I wanted, so I brought it with me.
Didn't know how to open my drain valve, wanted to remove it instead.
Didn't want to install the filter I brought, saying it was the wrong one for the car. (It's a little bigger, bumping oil capacity to 5 quarts instead of 4.6)
Didn't want to put 5 quarts of oil in, which I had specified, rather than the 4.6 that the computer told them.
Argued with me about the dangers of overfilling an engine with oil, and gave me an "I'll show you" look until he pulled the stick out and it showed PERFECT, right on the full mark with 5 quarts in.
Still charged me for the filter, even though I supplied it.

Thus endeth my first and only trip to Jiffy Lube. I would rather go 1000 miles over my oil change interval than let those retards touch my car again.

lol. sounds like jiffy lube is the spot for moron mechanics. i have a lancer oz rally with the emblems taken off. and it took them 10 minutes of searching to figure out what the hell i had for a car. not to mention that i forgot to turn off my system so everytime they turned on the electronics to look at the gauge or pull foward they got a blast of music. lol. stupid people

hmm interesting.. no problems here. My pops took my car to jiffy lube somewhere in bkyln and they only inconvience was that he brought the filter with him. They did the oil change and supplied synthetic oil. We check afterwards if there's too little oil or too much. Everything went well.

This is why I change my own oil. As soon as the guy would have asked if my CAI was my turbo...I would have shut the hood, took the keys, and calmly drove away.

My RA only goes to the dealer for oil changes. Sure, I pay more, but I just don't trust the quickie places.

I'd change it myself, but I've got no place for it (apartment complex frowns upon that type of thing...)

Ha ha good story. I've had my car confused with an evo a few times before too at gas stations which is pretty funny.

I get my oil changed at the dealership. Am I the only one here who has their oil changes free for 3 years? I thought that was almost a given with mitsubishi cars but I guess not. If I didn't get it for free I would be doing it myself of course.

Yep, I get all of my service free for 3 years or 45,000 miles. If I didn't have that I would do it myself though. I have a hard time trusting people with my car. It's kind of nice hanging out at the dealership looking at the cars every couple of months.

My dealership also threw in an extra service warranty for me for free so that I can take my car in for service every 3750 miles instead of every 7500 miles.
