Speed responsive steering takes into account the rpm of the engine(the speed of the pulley on the power steering pump.) as it turns faster the steering wheel is less responsive. The problem we are trying to describe happens to me no matter what rpm the engine is at. I was able to duplicate it for the dealer in second gear at 2500 rpm's. Steering quickly from side to side(slalom) LOCKS the steering wheel. It doesn't gain resistance, it stops abruptly for a half second or so and then lets go. This is a flaw, and someone on here told me it was in other mitsu vehicles(i think he mentioned the eclipse) in the past. Mitsu so far has "fixed" the issue in my car, and told me that it's the best they can get it. They also have told me that they are unaware of any other cars(in other words there are no tsb's for the RA) with this problem.

now that I think about it, I may try and defeat the power steering pump with a smaller belt to identify the pump as the problem. If anyone has defeated the power steering and ac or even just the p/s let me know the belt size plz. Thanks.
