No air leaks, no limp mode, and did full diagnostic testing according to Mitchell.

You can read the thread here

A forum search showed me a number of people had problems with these codes with their RRM CAI.

Everything's just dandy now though, problem solved.

edit - the MAF results showed the car wasn't getting enough air, which I really don't understand (with a P&P mani, upgraded throttle body, and cold air intake)

yeah mine threw CEL again... .. this happens a lot since I removed an exhaust resonator S chamber type.. since then CEL comes and goes on and off wildly... maybe I am losing backpressure and O2 readings are bad????

I am goin to take my injectors tomorrow for a full clean up... does anyone know if we can modulate the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure regulator???

My car has been throwing this code but mine's a little more serious in the fact that my car won't start at all. I don't know if the car won't start because of something causing the code or if it's something else. This happened after a rain storm so, can a failed maf cause the car to not start?

When I turn the ignition it car sputters and then dies out. If I press on the gas continually after I have turned it over it just sputters and doesn't make it over 1000 rpms. I have been told that it might be a failed maf, no fuel pressure, or water in the engine.

I am going to pick up some parts today so that I can do a compression test and make sure that everything with my cai is still snug.

Before doing anything else, remove spark plugs and injectors harness and crank 2 or 3 times.. see if water came out of any of the cylinders..

Try disconnecting MAF harness and see if problem persists.. if it does then the MAF may be wrong.

I remember that removing MAF enters the car in limp mode and doesn't let you get so far on RPM but past 2K rpms it does.

Remove battery negative terminal for 10 secs, plug again and start you engine with the MAF connected once.. and once without it.. see what happens and post your results

So I did a compression test and I got these numbers:
1: 170
2: 186
3: 176
4: 183

I figured those were pretty good numbers so I called that good and moved onto the next thing. I also didn't see water squirting out when I turned it over. I put everything back together and disconnected the maf then went to start my car and it idled perfectly. It continued to run while I put all of my tools away too. Thank you for your help with how to figure out what was wrong. I am almost completely positive it is the maf so I will order a new one as soon as I can.

Thanks again!

What's with all these MAF's needing replacement? New Kid, do you have an aftermarket oiled air filter?

Please say no hahaha. If you do, you may try to clean it using electronic cleaner and I would suggest to do a 2nd clean up with ethylic alcohol and tips.. just make sure it doesnt stay there.

Unfortunately, cleaning MAFs doesn't seem to help much - replacement with a new one is the only sure way.

I have already taken off the whole intake system, wiped it down, dried it and let it sit for a good 2 hours before trying to drive the car.

The air filter is oiled from the manufacturer but I've used the same one for five years. I'm assuming thats bad, should I get a different, non-oiled one?

i've been running an oiled filter in my 03 ES for like 3 years, it still runs, but the MAF is quite different, maybe the honeycomb stuff is catching the oil...lol

just replace the MAF...clear the code, start engine.

And from now on before installing any filter please wash it with warm water and soap and let it dry. Don't use oil that say it will be better because dirt and all that stuff..

I live in mexico in a place where dirt is a major problem.. whenever I have to take out my front, I wash my filter with water only. Don't use oil, not even a little..

I have never used oil to clean a filter but I will be sure to not buy an oiled one from now on. Thanks!

You don't use oil to clean filter, you clean it with water and soap and after it dries you give a small spray outside of oil to catch more dirt and all that stuff. Then this oil comes in and gets in the maf.

Changed the maf and disconnected the battery to see what would happen. The car did the exact same thing where it would start and then immediately die (sort of like stalling out). I'm starting to think it's not associated with the code I was getting.
