gauging interest
So im gonna get a CF A pillar with 2 gauges. my question is, what do you guys think would be 2 of the most usefull gauges to get or do you guys use? i was thinking oil pressure but am not sure what else would be most usefull?
Definitely oil pressure (I'm getting one soon). There's a few others that would be useful for a NA Lancer, either a water temp gauge (more accurate than the stock one), oil temperature, or an EGT gauge.
i was thinking about installing the gauges myself, but that is one job im just unsure of. ive skimmed thru some how to's in the evo section and it seems like it would be a lil difficult. unfortunatly, ill probally end up bringing my car to a shop.
i have a air fuel ratio gauge and a nitrous gauge. i took out the two spots where it blows out air where the flashers are and put the gauges there. if youd like to know how to install an air fuel ratio gauge the oxygen sensor is pin number 108. its white. its on the fourth block, like 3rd pin down. theres a diagram somewhere on this site for it.
edit- i didnt mention the ecu is behind the glovebox.

I haven't bought any gauges because I don't understand how it would change my driving habits. I'm sure there's a good reason for them but, the people I know that have them, I ask why and they say,"Because......I.....can.....um......tell....em .....when my oil is getting low.....or somethinng......uh......yeah!". So I'm like whatever. Until I understand the true need to have one, I'm not getting one and being a poser!

not to rain on your parade or anything though, just sayin.
i like the idea of air/fuel ratio and oil pressure gauges to be on topic.
They're not necessary for day to day driving, unless you want advanced warning if you're engine is about to blow up. If you do any type of racing, you definitely want gauges to monitor temps and pressures. Oil pressure is particularly crucial, as you want to know if you're starving your engine of oil in corners. If you rely on the idiot light, by the time it's on, the damage is already done.
Gauge installations shouldn't be too hard. Hardest part of an EGT gauge would be pulling the header so you can drill and tap it. Oil pressure is easy, as there's already a threaded hole to put the sensor in just above the oil filter. Water temp shouldn't be too hard, either. Adding power to the gauges is no harder than installing any other electical device in your car, just hook it up to the fusebox.

i hooked my power up to the cigerate lighter. i think why bother making more lines go throught the firewall that are unnecessary. i put air fuel ratio in because i want to make sure my car is running rich when im using my spray.
i have the autometer gague pod that goes on top of the steering wheel..
there i have there the egt
im planning to buy the same one but w/ the two gage setup (like the mickey mouse hat)
one for egt and the other for the nitrous gage...
planning also on a pilar setup of 3
oil press
water temp
and fuel pressure OR wideband (wideband if i decide to get rid of the egt and put the fuel press on its place)
