well partly to block heat from the engine goin into the car(obviously), and i think if something caught on fire it will help slow the fire from going into the cockpit. im pretty sure u can drill through it. if thats wut ur doing...try searching someone might have posted

i think he was refuring to the heat shield around the exhaust manifold.

what u are refuring to is the firewall. and if he is aking if u need a fire wall then he should not be workin an cars.

Sorry could of been more clear, It is the one that covers the headers. So there is a good purpose for it? I know heat is bad but can you tell me why? and kind of a silly question but if I had a evo hood would I need it because of the vents. I don't even know if they fit RA's but I sure wan't one!!!

thats what i thought, i took mine off just so i could see the headers. i can feel (heat) a big difference, though when i pop the hood. if your're running a sri i dont think it would be good if your intentions are to get cool air into your engine. if so, keep your heatsheild on. and the do make "evo style" hoods for RA's if you put one of those on it'll allow more heat to escape from under the hood.

If you take it off I would recomend you put a heat wrap around it like what DEI makes. I am planning to do that. from what I have heard that keeps heat out of the engine compartment much better than the tin heatshield does.
