Gas-saving pills?

My RA is great but I am getting bad gas milage (I do a lot of city driving). Recently someone told me about some pills that we can put in our gas tank before every fillup. It claims to be able to improve your car performance and gas milage. I am interested in trying it but i am worried it will do damage than good to my car.
Has anyone heard or tried this stuff? Do they really work?
Thanks!

Never heard of them. I would be very leary of putting anything solid in my gas tank. I would not want to risk clogging my fuel pump with half disolved chunks of "pill"

What kind of gas milage are you getting in the city? I get about 200 miles per tank Then when i go out on the highway i am getting 160 miles to a half tank.

I wish there was a simple fix to this problem... but i dont think hopping my car up on pills would be the solution.

But I heard a guy who has been using the pill on his car (not RA) for a while and he told me it does improve his gas milage a lot. He said the pill is just an additive to make your gas to burn better and clean your engine at the same time.

It is my understanding that the only way higher octane fuel would give you better mileage is if you had a mod that tweaks ignition timing enough to make 87 octane knock. The knock sensor would pick it up and tell the ECU. The ECU would then retard the timing and/or increase the fuel trim (richen the mixture) to try to get rid of the knock.

By using the higher octane gas in that instance, there might not be any knock, so the timing is fully advanced and the fuel trim kept low, so you get *slightly* better mileage than you would with crappy gas.

In stock form, though, higher octane gas won't get you anything but poorer.

Those gas pills are a scam. 20/20 did a test on them and got 1-1.5% better millage in a v6 minivan, the saving on gas was outweighed by the cost. If you want to save gas, change to a synthetic oil, get a free flowing exhaust like the one from RRM, either axle or cat back and at least put in a K&N filter in not, install a whole intake. The UD pulley also help. Also don't tromp it in town, the ralliart gets really thirsty when over worked.

I noticed since I have had the RPW headers and exhaust on my car that the mileage on my car has increased getting about an extra 50klm to the tank I know this is not huge but it is enough to be noticeable I do a mixture of driving some country long runs and some city driving as well, we have also just put on the K&N pod filter as well so hopefully that will give us a bit more but probably not that much just make the car more fun to drive as it is becoming a rev happy car with loads of pull down low and up top

an unbiased documentary on tv showed that everything that you can put into your car that claims will save you money was not proven, and still the best thing to do is to monitor your tire pressure every month, slow down and keep the revs low, and perform regular maintenance according to your manual. It would probably benefit you more if you have extra money instead of buying these gimmics, to purchase stocks in petroleum, look at your dick and bush(VP and PM)
