it could have been a noise reducer OR a fire retardent or maybe something else. where was it exactly? I can't say for sure because i have never seen this stuff in my car before. be careful, it is not safe to take things out of a car without knowing what they do!

I don't remember seeing any insulation when I pulled my intake. Do you have a picture of where it came from and what it is?

My stock intake didn't have anything like that in it. There was something like that in my old Eclipse, though, so it's possible that your car had it.

And what does the airbox have to do with installing subs?

I ran my power cable between the inner and outer fender, then through a big grommet from the wheel well area into the cabin near the fusebox. Nice and neat, there's only about 10 inches of cable visible, plus the fuse holder mounted on the battery tie-down.

+1 for the pic.

I just pulled my stock airbox out of the desk drawer it's in and looked. The only part that was not plastic was the air filter.

i mean with the air filter out you would get extra air intake, so you would feel like your car has more power.

You'd also get extra dirt intake, especially in the Southwest.
