Don't need Myth Busters... The Federal Trade Commission has already "Busted" most of them.... You can research it at www.ftc.org Pro-Long, Motor-Up, Dura Lube, Slick 50 and a host of others, many owned by the same company in Florida where the guy just keeps changing names. Z-Max has gotten around the FTC lawsuit temporarily as now they claim to "treat" the metal parts instead of the oil... it won't be long and they will be out again...

Many people get caught up in watching these "Additives" on YV using the "One Armed Bandit"... It is actually a Falex Bearing tester... but the way it is performed on TV... it is Nothing.. The Human hand cannot be involved in any actual test so that the results can be duplicated without variance.

Slick-50 and a few others use Teflon.... bad idea as it builds up in oil gallies and can cause a bearing failure or even seized cams due to tight tolerances. Some others use chlorinated EP additives.... yes as in Chlorine.. Chlorine is a great EP additive.... problem is.. chlorine is an acid.. tears down the TBN of the oil immediately and when it vaporizes... RUST...

There is another company out there marketing an additive and I can't remember their name right now.... Cooler running, more HP etc..... It contains Stoddard Solvent which lowers the Viscosity of the oil but also breaks the oil down.. Stoddard Solvent is Parts Cleaner....

EP Additives are NOT only NOT Necessary in an engine, but they break down the oil before it's normal useable life and cause engine damage.

ZDP was used as the additive in oil for the only place that was necessary years ago, or in hot rods today and some racing applications. That is for Flat Tappet Cams... which most everything built in the last 15 years has Roller Lifters...

If you are looking for a little added HP, added protection and possibly extended drain intervals, Contact me for information on AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants, I have the lowest prices and great service..

I used the lucas oil additive in my old wrangler, almost the entire bottle lol. I had an oil leak and it stopped it all together. Ran it pretty hard for an old crappy car and never ran into any issues with it. I put it in the Evo with my first oil change, about half as much as it says to. I'd imagine as long as you don't over due it with the additive and change your oil regularly it shouldn't be a problem.

I went to their web site but couldn't find any MSDS facts... That is what is needed... I am thinking it is a Solvent based product, but I may be totally wrong...

I doubt they would reply to me or any of the email addy's that I have...everything has "oil" in it.. If someone can get the MSDS, which they have to supply by law, and send it to my email, that would be great..

Putting an additive in to something that is already having problems, is by no means a way of telling anything about how an additive reacts with an oil and how it works in a mechanically sound engine, especially one that you care about..

I would think that it doesn't make any difference what's in your user name. you can ALWAYS get an MSDS from the manufacturer or if you buy the product then from the retailer itself. like you said, they are required to supply it, so it doesn't matter if your email address is "oildocwhoisplanningonputtingyououtofbusinesscopyi ngyourformula@screwingcompaniesoverallthetime.com"

I love the thought you put into your post...

Yes, they must supply an MSDS.. But they can also make it difficult to get and drag their feet for you to get it.... You shouldn't have to ask how I know.... LOL

Only if he can Email or Fax me an MSDS.... Even at that, I doubt if I would condone the use of an additive in oil... Buy a better oil..

Ive used them in beater cars. never in my evo... However, my roomate has a 2005 f150 with 65k miles on it. The mechanic sai to dup some of the fuel system tune up into the oil and it would clean things up and stop the engine knock that he experiences during the first 30 seconds when he starts it up. sounds like a snake juice fix to me. anyone heard of usin these aditives like this?

Tell your friend... ABSOLUTELY NOT !!!!!!! If he wants to clean his engine out, contact me. I have an Inexpensive Engine Flush Specifically Designed to do what he wants....

Use the correct product to prevent possible engine damage..

I also have a once every 4000 mile fuel system cleaner that I used in both my F150's , my Honda CRV, my E250 and the Lancer... Noticed within a Half Tank on all of them that they ran smoother and better fuel mileage, and the Lancer only has 6000 on it...

The only thing I haven't used it in is my MotorCycle as it is not formulated for smaller engines yet

What is this engine flush you have? whats it called.
