Yesterday on my way to get a new battery my CEL came on. While at AutoZone they checked it. Code was P0335, something to do with the crankshaft position sensor.

What is this?

After the battery switch the CEL has yet to come on but Im still concerned. I have 65.5K on my '04. Some time next week Im going in for my timing belt change.

Any input?

 

If it comes back before your timing belt change, have them check out the crank position sensor while they're in there.

There isn't much to this code, either the sensor is failing or the wiring for it is, unless it was just a fluke.

kinda curious what they do.

 

im not saying its a big deal cause it will make your car not run if it gets to bad but basically its a sensor that controls your timing. its not like your motors going to blow up but its just like if your map sensor failed. no worky worky.

 

Truely i wouldn't worry about it that much. If it comes back check your alignment to make sure everything in the front of the engine (inside timing cover) is lined up with their marks. The crank sensor is only a PM generator. If everthing lines up, check the signal side of the Crank Posistion Sensor. It should generate voltage. If it doesn't then it could be bad.

 

I am also pritty sure that our cars if the crank sensor goes out that there is a back up . Like your Cam posistion sensor. The car will run crappy but it will still run. It will just take the cam sensor some time to calculate RPM.

 

So far so good, the light has still not come one since I got the new battery...getting the timing belt done this week.
