and how far between changes should i go?
(i always changed the oil in my '77 dodge monaco and '94 ranger every 3k mi, so i just continued with the RA)
your lancer is NOT an american car lol. the engine is remarkably clean. if all you do is mostly highway driving, you can even go by the regular maintenance schedule where an oil change is due every 12'000km, especially when your running synthetic oil.

Just remember though its your car. If you want to change the oil every 3,000 then do it. It won't hurt it changing it early. Running synthetic you could at least double that interval. Me I change mine about every 6K. I'm sure I could push it longer but it gives me peace of mind changing it then.

I use synthetic and change it about every 5,000 miles and i put in 5 quarts. idk how that translates into km or liters though lol. But when i did my oil change this last weekend, after 5,500 miles, i still poured a little over 4 quarts out. I worry too about waiting too long. Better safe than sorry i guess..

Mobil 1. $22 for a 5 qt jug at Walmart. You could go the extended version but if you are changing at 5-6K miles I would just go the regular. I always use OEM filters. I use the entire jug to the last drop and my dipstick reads right on the full line.

My bad. I said I put in 5. I only put in 4.5. I like to stick to Pennzoil or Mobil. But ill use Valvoline or Quaker State if its on sale LOL. But definitely only fully synthetic for my baby.

No, getting a hold of Amsoil in Puerto Rico is a bit hard plus I usually buy the M-1 oil (5 quarts) plus M-1 oil filter for around $30 qhich is quite good IMO.

This is my latest oil report. The car took on a little water but was not harmed in any way and has kept on going without any problems. Look at the viscosity which is slightly lower. They told me that everything is fine and that these engines tend to break up the oil, hence my viscosity was more in the likes of a high 5w-20 or low 5w-30 oil instead of a 10w-30.

hate to revive an old thread, but im about to do an oil chage on my gal's 06 R/A...shes always taken it into dealer/valvoline/etc...

I read that i'll need about 4.6 quarts of oil....

what weight of oil are you guys using for the 06 R/A. I've read 10w30, and I also read 5w30...any help would be appreciated!

I use 5w-30 year round and have no problems.

Crankcase takes 4.2 quarts
Oil filter takes .32 quarts

One of the best websites on oil and lubricants is Bob is the Oil guy

i would be glad to pop your cherry!

the previous owner wrote 4.6 qt on my engine block (*****)
i just use the entire 5 qt jug cause i dont see a reason to keep partially empty (or partially full) oil jugs in the garage. and the owners manual says 10w-30 for lower temps and 5-w30 for higher temps if i remember correctly. i use 5w-30 fully synthetic myself.

oh, now im up to 193k miles
power!!!
