Revive to a dead thread. So I just discovered today that I've been running only 3.5qts of oil in my car for the last 3k miles... with a few cruises and a dyno session in there... am I screwed? I accidentally bought a 4qt jug instead of a 5qt when I did my last oil change and only filled up to 3.5qts

Not while in neutral when I rev it to like 4-5k. Sometimes underload I hear clicking right before shifts but I think that is the trans or cv axle going on me

i was low on oil once, way back, and with mivec engaged at high rpm, it made a nasty clicking noise. top up the oil and it should be fine...

mine didnt make any clicks when in mivec. the cruises with some friends and my dyno run it didnt sound like it had any problems.

i did a complete oil change today with mobil1 synthetic again like last time but at least this time i made sure i put in 5qts. idk if it has anything to do w/ it but my balance shaft delete increases my oil pressure so maybe that has something to do with it?

i think you'll be fine. just keep checking it periodically. as long as it's not making and odd noises (ticking/knocking ect) you should be good to go.

Yeah I'm worried about knocking again cause I already had the car go down last year cause of rod knock from a spun bearing

well, there's not really much you can do about rod and crank bearings, other than stop driving it, pulling the motor and rebuilding the block. Just keep the oil in her.

Does it still make the noise after the oil change?

yeah still does. start hearing it around 2.5-3k rpm but then the sound of the engine drowns it out after that. its not rod knock cause last time i had it i could hear it even if i revved in neutral which is not the case here.

that and if it were rod knock it definitely would've gone down on the way to/from MOD or even my dyno run just because i was pushing the car so hard

I'm using 5w20 full synthetic Amsoil and Amsoil's Filter if you become a preffered customer you pay cost just as if you were a dealer. When using Amsoil for the first time you need to perform an engine flush with there Engine and rad flush product running the vehicle for 20 minutes to allow it to work threw the engine. Then you are able to drain your oil and fill it with the Asmsoil. Once you have done that and you drive it for a while check your oil and if you notice that you are low on oil you need to drop the filter and replace it then top it up. The reason for this is that the filter removes harmful deposits from the oil that will not allow it threw the filter back into the engine.
