Motor Trend Ralliart comparison test

I got my January Motor Trend today and they have a comparison test of the Ralliart, Impreza 2.5RS, Sentra SE-R Spec V, and Focus SVT. They liked the Ralliart. It was the only one with a sub 15 second 1/4 mile time and they liked the solid structure. They said it had "excellent driveline execution, tight as a drum construction". "Makes an excellent first impresssion and shows off all that is good in Mitsubishi products." They hated the all season tires. They ranked it second behind the Focus.

I couldn't find a link on the Motor Trend web site because they're still showing the current issue as December. I'm sure the full article will be online soon.

Thanks for the heads-up. It'll be an interesting read. I am a bit suprised that the RalliArt was faster than the Sentra SE-R in the 1/4 mile...

Sub 15 1/4 mile on the Ralliart? Really? What did it run and what was the trap speed?

The Ralliart ran 14.97 at 90.88 mph. The rankings were:

Focus SVT
Ralliart
Nissen SE-R Spec V
Impreza 2.5 RS

They hated the Subaru. Bad handling and the slowest too.

Ok guys, I was up all night thinking about buying a Ralliart after this post, but things were not adding up. Plus Ive always been suspect of Motortrend. At any rate, I spent the last half an hour looking for Ralliart performance numbers from other magazines, and two other magazines list it doing the quarter mile at 15.7 sec, which is much more reasonable and believeable that 14.97. Either Motortrend is wrong, or Mitsu gave the magazine a "special" Ralliart to test.

Sorry to burst everyones bubble. I just knew it was too good to be true, plus when I test drove a Ralliart on Wednesday it didnt feel like a dub 15 sec. car.....

The 15.7sec 1/4 mile and 7.5 sec 0-60mph times were from the official press release. As far as I know Motortrend is the first rag to actually track the car.
I too am a bit suspicious, but this is just magazine racing. Lets get a RalliArt to the track.

I dont buy the new lancer is a high 14 sec car. No way is that thing making the same track numbers as a stock GSX putting out 210hp and 214 lb-ft of torque and being AWD. I think that it maybe a typo. As for MotorTrend being the only mag that has tested the new Ralliart..this is also untrue. Road and Track have also gotten their hot hands on one already. Their numbers are the same as mentioned before 7.5 0-60 and 15.7 1/4 mile. This would be about right for the type of power this car is making. I mean look at it's rivals for comparison. They all weigh in about the same and have around about the same HP/trq so the times shopuld be around the same, in theory. Here is a small quote from them: It leaves the line with a pleasant pop, and gets to highway speed quickly while showcasing a hearty supply of low- and mid-range torque. At the test track, the Lancer Ralliart kept up with all but the best of them, running to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds and the quarter mile in 15.7. Dont get me wrong it seems like everyone is really impressed by this car, but don't be fooled into believing this is a 14 second car because it is not.

All of the times seem fast. I wonder if they put different wheels on them. What did they say about the handling & braking? Did they run them through the slalom or on a course?
