high rpms bad mileage?
the factory map isn't even tuned for 94, it's not really cleaner, octane is more the compressability rating of the fuel, and our engines don't need high octane fuel, cause the engine is not a high compression engine. When you start modifying your AFR, increasing compression, or running boost then you may need to change your ignition timing and increase octane to prevent knock.
You're just wasting your money. In fact, you could probably save $400-$600 annually (possibly more considering your driving habits and how often you fill up) by not using premium. With all the money you would save, you could appropriately mod your car to benefit from or require the use of premium (because you "want it").
Yeah, when I did chemistry lower octane gave better mileage vs higher octane for a given engine. Then came the internet and suddenly higher octane gave better mileage than lower octane.
How do people measure their mileage is what I would like to know ?
I do it based on filling up all the way to the brim then resetting the trip meter, driving and seeing how much it takes to fill to the brim once more and recording the reading on the trip meter.
I fill to the brim because that is the only way I know how much fuel has been used, any other way and I dont know how much fuel I am starting with.

for sure...then you could pull a cranswick, and run triple gauges that are wired for power, but don't actually do anything...yeah it's embarrassing, but they will serve a purpose down the road, lol!
I've been tracking my mileage for 11 months 15 days now using an app called aCar on my Droid. Here are my full mod list and car history which may all have an effect to the mileage overall:
Mods
Car
I commute daily 72 miles round trip with 60 miles all highway. I drive @ 3495 rpms (just below 3500 since Mivec kicks in @ 3495 rpms) usually that is 72 mph. I do drive pretty lively, no burnouts, but do get shift points up to 6500 rpms on occasion. Getting on the highway is fun
.
So with all that said I average 25.699 mpg which I'm ok with.
