1/4 mile with AT

I'm about to do my first 1/4 mile run. I have an AT transmission(I know it's not ideal for this kind of racing).

I would like to get some tips, advices about lunching, either leave it in D or shift through L,2,3, etc., anything would help.

Thank you.

I have a 92 integra that is A/T and when I went to the track, I saw no Difference between L,1,2,3 or if I just had it in Drive. I know this is a different vehicle, but I would put it in Drive, Rev up to like 2600-2700k while holding the brake, let the brake go, and take off.

definitely would not recommend shifting L,2,3 cause that'll destroy your trans from what i've heard

Yea, good luck. I tried shifting it and it didn't help. I had a buddy who was getting on the off ramp of the highway and he downshifted like that and his tranny dropped out of the car lol.

lol, should have told him you have to let go of the brakes before you floor it

i don't drive auto, can you rev in neutral and slam it into gear? that would probably break stuff too.

Cranswick the dropping into gear while revving will drop the trans bit by bit til its f*cked. There's no real good way to launch a auto w/o risking something breaking

Well I did it and I had a lot of fun but... I found out that my car is slowwwww. I am embarrassed to post my time but I will for other members that are curious...

I did it for 2 reasons:
1. I got challenged by my friend with a Toyota Altis XRS. I kicked his a** by .3 sec
2. I am about to do my cam, IM and bigger TB and wanted to see how much faster my car will be since this is cheaper then a dyno.

This was my first 1/4 mile run so my lunching wasn't that good. Shifting L to 2 to 3 gave me a better time then just keeping it in D by a half of a second.

So here it is:
In D - 16.966
Shifting L,2,3 - 16.461

Hmm, did you take your spare tire out?

cause i got you by almost a whole second with just an SRI.

I wouldn't be embarassed of your time, it actually not that bad. (for automatic)

Manual is just more flexible for any kind of racing.

Break torque the mother, when the light hit’s green, let the break go and floor it. That’s the best way; you can’t shift an automatic. That goes without saying.

No I didn't take the spare tire out and yes I did brake boost it, maybe not as good as it should be done, this was my first time and maybe last. I'll stick with Autocross...
