I got a new head and it is missing a tap on the inside where it looks like a pressure release valve? Used to go in my head. Corner driver's side on the exhaust side of head.

I know what you mean, lanzerralliart's is missing from the pic, it's a valve of some sort, there's like a snap ring, and a plunger and a heavy spring inside.

Does that go all the way through the head?

i believe it does not, by the pics i have it does not appear to go all the way through, though it may tap into the little passages in the head. It's an accumulator, so i would say it's definately oil related.

have a peek through my album, there's a few other pics of the head, you just have to snoop around

I looked at my extra head , and I'd say crank is right, there isn't any hole that comes through to the bottom of the head. So it must go to an internal oil passage of some sort.

well opposite that is the oil control valve, which i'm pretty sure is MIVEC related, the accumulator, i'm not sure, but it is a possibility.

Yes you are right, it is an oil pressure accumulator. It absorbs and releases oil pressure at a spring controlled rate -- it does not pass through to any other oil passage-ways.

It eases oil pressure shocks when the MIVEC oil control valve opens and closes. Without it, oil pressure would "slam" into the MIVEC system.
