buy a new short block or re-build mines?

short long story..... my wife was driving my car and a hydro lock happened.

What is a better option? Right now I really don't care about performance the RA, just wanna repair it and use it to go to work.

rebuild or buy a new short block?

inputs are welcome

I would pull the plugs and check for water in the combustion chamber first.

is really bad, she try to turn on the car at home to show me how it sounds (bad idea), and it makes a lot of vibrations and sounds like something grinding in the crank shaft, actually sounds like only in 3 pistons are working

i bet it's just a bent rod, and now that and the piston are destroying which ever cylinder got the worst of it...might be worth rebuilding if the cylinder is not too bad, as any swap you do might require timing work anyways...but then again if you rebuild you'd be doing a timing job anyways, so if you can snag a used engine that's timed, then you can build yours on the side, so when you swap back the VIN's will match again...

how did she hydro lock it?

Honestly.... I don't wanna know how that happened. She tried to tell me, but I told her that I don't care, and is already !@#$%. An explanation is not gonna fix it.

Sorry to hear that man

Hope you can find an engine fairly easy. Maybe a galant or outlander engine is easier to find over there.

lol, i was just curious...she probably feels really bad about it, or at least she should, hahaha..

it would probably be cheaper to swap...but for resale the original engine should be restored...

lets see, I already talked with a dealership in the area and the price for the short block is not that bad considering the warranty and the fact that is just swap.

she feels horrible about it

RESALE? if I fix or buy the short block it will has to last around 7 more years with with, so resale is not an option in a LONG time
