I changed the oil on my RA today, it has 2169 miles on it. Well I drained all the oil and when I went to take the oil filter off it didn't look like the one I got from Mitsubishi. Well come to find out they sold me the wrong one, is a little longer but the diameter is smaller than the one on the car. Since I already drained out the oil I just filled it with Mobil 1 5W30 and I'm taking my filter back to them to exchange it for the right one. The part number they gave me was MZ690072 and the one I need is MZ690116. I;m going to change it again in 1000miles, I changed it 900 miles early so another 1000 on the orignal filter should be ok. I'm just so pissed because I had already drained the oil and now I have to change it again, well earlier than I was wanting to since Mobil 1 isn't cheap. If I see that ******* I wish I could punch him in the damn face for being such a dumbass.

 

i work for mitsu and all their oil filter applications have changed they only sell 2 oil filters now. 072 is the right oil filter. it just isn't the same number

 

It looked to small to me, but if thats it then I guess I'll use it later on. So now the filter is smaller than it was before, why the hell would they do that. Well if it's the right filter I'll just wait for another 1000 miles before I change it.

 

Update and not to be mean or anything but Keith you are wrong on the filter. The correct number is MZ690116 just like I posted earlier. I called up the dealership where I bought the filter and he said no you were given the wrong filter. I said well the problem is I already changed my oil but I had to use the old filter since I was given the wrong filter. They exchanged the one filter and gave me another one for free so it's all cool. I also looked at it and it's short and fat just like the one I have on my car.

 

I'm gonna shoot something off here. Mind you this is coming from a Factory trained Master Tech.

Mitsubishi has 2 filters. Both of them have the same diameter mounting gasket and same tread. They also have very similar sized media (about the same amount of filtering media). Either filter works on most cars. The only difference between the 2 is basically the confinement in which the filter must go in. Also the short fat one has a little more capability to flow more oil. And from what I know and was told, Mitsu dealers do not have in their catalog a specific filter, they just have a recommendation.
