Unhappy HELP! Need to confirm oil filter part#. is MZ690116 correct?

I need to confirm oil filter part number. I'm in the middle of changing my oil and I just noticed that the filter I bought is different from the one currently installed in the car. I remember reading a post regarding a part# change but i can't seem to find it while doing a search. delaers are closed now so can't confirm through them. i even tried looking up evo filters at mitsubishiparts.net and .com with no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Part numbers on oil filters change from the original filter put on from the assembly line. You should be fine.

thanks nastea1 and sincity. just wanted to make sure since the filters are physically different. it looks like the new one doesnt even have that anti drain valve.

Yea, the new #'s suck compared to the originals. Some have said you can still find the originals at some dealers. I dunno, I've been running the mz690116 for 23k without issue. Oil always looks pretty good after 3k.

Is the original filter the shorter, fatter one? My parts guy has a few but since I didn't have the original/old part number on hand, I got the new longer/thinner version.

If that's the case I am buying a ****load next time!

I was told by the Mitsu dealer in Brandon FL that there are two filters that fit our evo 4g. The one is small and fat, the other is longer and narrower. I asked what the difference was and they told me simply the shape; nothing else. They told me either one will work equally well. I was a bit curious so I asked him to double check his computer info with a mechanic. The mechanic also assured me there was no difference other than shape.

I got the short fat one. For what it's worth. ;-)

The original P/N is MD356000. It is shorter and fatter than the newer ones they issue, looks like its alot better quality also. If you can find any, I would stock up on them.
