Big Maintenance ( Estimated Time)

Alright so lets start this off,

My right CV Joint is torn so I decided to get a brand new AXLE.

I'm doing my Timing Belt Service (including Water Pump and Tensioners) at the same time I am going to get my RRM UDP installed.

I'm also getting my Header and DP.

Thinking I would do a Valve Lash Adjustment at the same time.

So this is what I am estimating :

Axle = 1.5 hours
Timing belt and UDP= 4 hours
Header DP = 1 hour (depending on the header bolts)
Valve Lash Adjustment = 1 hour

So its gona be about 8 hours of labor. What do you guys think?

And after this is all done getting my reflash from HACKISH <--- cant wait for this.

If your car is anything like mine, the axle will be welded with rust inside the hub assembly, so think around 5-8 hours only to pull the axle out of the hub. My advice : don't waste any time on it. If it seems stuck in there, cut the axle flush to the hub on both sides, then use a press to push the remaining part out.

Wish I was even slightly kidding...

Also, let me know what brand header/DP you getting. I've been thinking about the OBX one, not sure about quality though (as people here seem to have different opinions on it).

Before starting all that, try to see if your accessory belt tensioner still moves.

It would suck getting ready for all those repairs and being stuck because the tensionner is seized (like mine).

yeah, 8 hours on a brand new car...you may find you run into quite a few seized parts, and new stab bar endlinks may be required.

also, usually when you buy a new right cv shaft, it doesn't includethe mid shaft from the bracket to the diff, you may need to transfer parts over...

Wow that is ridiculous I really hope that is not the case. But thanks for the advice on cutting the axle it might be useful

Yeah I went the cheap way with OBX. Ive also been wondering about the OBX because people seem to have different experience with them so I decided to try them out for the time being as I plan to go turbo but my current flextube is about to fall apart and my local exhaust shop told me it would cost me 150$ to change and for the price difference of the header I though it was worth it. Also my accessory tensioner is seized I just received my new tensioner so I'm all good for that.

With my luck everything will be seized im planning on it just trying to see if everything goes good so I can have an idea. I bought the car with 125k km and its hasn't even been a year and ive put almost 6gs in the car I could of been turboed already. As for the cv shaft I bought the hole axle assembly.

I would plan out two days worth of time, just in case you run into any problems.

What happened to the optimism , you had in the first post

At least you have a good forum with plenty of people that can help if you get caught up somewhere along the way.

This is very true ^^^^^

I still cant wait!! Just waiting for the parts to get here. I've been driving my 05 civic around for the time being. Cant wait to get her back and after the reflash and the mods should be a very noticeable difference!!

Optimism with a RA is knowing upfront everything will go the absolute worst it can.

Also, Murphy's law.

Every used Mitsubishi owner should also be a mechanic/have access to a garage!

DSM's are worse, don;t sweat it

also i thought about you this morning...trick tip (manual transmission only): If you jack the car on stands on all 4 corners, but have it a bit lower in the front, you can swap axles without dumping the transmission fluid

Agreed. I sold my 2006 RA only to be back in a Lancer a few years later. I miss my RA so much, but I'm loving this GTS.
