maf is located a few inches behind the main air intake box and is a small rectangular unit sitting in the air duct going to the throttle body. If the sensor surface is wet or not working your car will idle bad.

as for the purge solenoid i have never heard of that b4 so i need to look into it.

This sounds very similar to what happened to me when my alternator died... My lights would cut in and out like the car was dying, then when I would turn the car off, the car was completely dead. Switched out the alternator and haven't had a problem.

Having this issue now as well. Car sat for 4-6 months while I was out of country, when I came home and started it, the alt was seized and snapped the belt. I replaced the alternator and put in a new battery. Car drives fine until I am braking and coming to a stop, when it will then drop to ~6-800 rpm, dash lights flicker and then stall out. Occasionally it will catch itself though. Any ideas?

How does the car idle at strtup? I'd still think its something to do with air intake, filter or maf, I had a similar issue when I didn't plug my maf in fully car just idled at 500ish and wanted to die, but I never drove it like that

Any codes in the ECU? Could be the purge valve I've been talking about in this thread, you should look it up. I wouldn't be surprised if Mitsubishi used the same crappy valve for both the Evo and RA.

This sounds like the same thing that was happening to my car last year. HERE IS THE THREAD Basically a little solenoid involved in the vacuum line process went bad. I replaced it and viola it stopped dying at idle. You can follow the vacuum line diagram under the hood to find the solenoid. Mine was located on the left side of my intake manifold.
