We did measure it and both answer's are right..... the ID is 2 1/8" and the OD is 2.25"...... I'm the one that posted the 2 1/8...... sorry if people are getting confused. From what we saw..... the OEM exhaust is a nice stainless...mandrel bend system..... we think that if you change the down pipe to 2.5 mandrel...that will free up a lot of restriction...... it has a nice high flow cat on it too. Hopefully this clears up the confusion.

If your just going to do axle back........ it will most likely be cheaper going to a muffler shop to get it done...... Not to down grade RRM's products at all.......they have done a lot for the RA...... I just think that for something like that.... you'll get it on faster without delay and shipping charges.

I have been considering intake upgrades, I'll probably just go K&N filter when I get my RA, but the SRI is tempting too...but to look at the pics on Ultimate I don't see how it would be effective. It sits right over the hot engine...how's that better then the stock air box that has a lead from the front of the engine compartment???

and now for perhaps the stupid question...pics of CAI's I've seen here have the pipe leading down to the bottom of the car, why not just direct it to the same rough position of the stock air box?...that location would make sense to me for bringing in cold air, as it's infront of the engine...only problem I see with the stock air box bringing in hot air is from the box itself getting up from the engine, and thus warming the air in it...but then I haven't examined the whole set up for more then 5 min at the dealer...
"

...haven't even bought the car yet, but already trying to delegate all my money for mods
The K&N drop in works good.... but the SRI will work better because of the volume of air that will get to the throttle body. The stock intake has a ram induction that has only a small opening for limited air to pass..... and with all of that plastic = more restriction. The rubber tube to the throttle body doesn't help either and has a big bend in it.....opposed to the SRI which has a slight smooth mandrel bend with a nice cone filter to suck in more air. To rectify the hot engine problem....just put a hood scoop on and make a custom heat shield. As far as RRM's CAI........ I can't really comment on their product....but I would think that you would still get better air from the ground then from where the stock induction was..... don't quote me on that though.

hrmm...you've helped spark an idea, that once I get my RA, and have some time to fiddle with it, might turn out a postive result as I attempt something similar to what you have proposed...when it happens I'll be sure to post some pics and such of what I do...if I decide to go so far as to make myself a custom intake...

I don't know what's on your mind...... but I think for a SRI....my set up is the best. SRI, hoodscoop, heat shield....

Well I think I made a mistake in the diameter..... When I was at the shop I took my old pipe and measured it again....... For some reason I had 2.25 inch and 2 1/8 in my mind.... the measurement was 2 1/8 out diameter and the ID was 2 inch....... hope that clarifies everything......... The bottom line is everyone is putting 2.5inch for the exhaust.....and everyone likes it......so you don't even have to know anything except .....you should change it too 2.5inch.....

however, it is illegal here to not have a cat, so if it's a matter of legality I guess that's why they didn't go CAI, nor remove the cat.
Yeah, in Alberta its not. The Dealer is giving me an AEM cai 400 dollars cdn installed for my OZ.

Did you double check with your local law? Dealers and stores are not restricted to just sell you products that are legal.... a lot of performance parts even have warning labels that say for off road or show...... That doesn't stop people from putting it on.... Those blue headlight bulbs for example......you can buy them almost everywhere.....but that doesn't mean they're legal...... I would double check before you buy.....but if your car isn't subject to getting pulled over and checked ....then I wouldn't worry about it.

Also from my understanding.... Ultimate Racing is in Canada and it's illegal in Canada to have a CAI. The onlt thing I'm wondering is why they just made a cat-back system instead of from the down pipe on? I guess Ultimate had their reason..... they are pretty reputable in Toronto.
it's not illegal in ontario.. not sure where you got that illegal info from

it cost me less to ship the stage 1 kit from Ultimate racing to my sister in boston, then have her ship it back to me compare to buying it from the dealer.

it's pretty wacked

Ultimate Racing Axle back

Well I for one am all over the Ultimate Racing stuff for my 06 RA the intake is an awesome peice and I just went over to toronto this morning and picked up their Axle back peice its sweet as well and I am sure it will be an awesome mod for this exhaust since the mid-pipe is already strong so..................just waiting to hear from my bud who has a pit in his garage and I am going over to install it today.
The guys at Ultimate know what they are doing without question I have already bugged Darryl there to make a header and down-pipe for us. Ya never know they might, they surely can.
Peace out
