Car Starting Question

Hey guys a simple question. My car takes a couple cranks to start up, not a big deal really. But when the wifey had her Galant (same engine), it would start up as soon as she turned the key over! How comes hers would start as soon as the key is turned, but my Ralliart takes a couple cranks?

I'm just curious more than anything.

is it all the time? could be the starter going out, or a weak battery...mine was slow to start shortly before my starter died...I got a new battery and a new starter and she fired up after what sounded like two crank rotations

Actually it's been doing this ever since I bought the car which is almost 5 years ago haha. So I always thought it was normal, until the wife got her Galant and hers started up immediately. It does however start up almost instantly after the car is warmed up.

Guaranteed Result

Take apart all electrical connections at the starter and solenoid and clean both sides of every terminal. Clean the battery posts. Clean all ground connection points at the chassis and engine.

"Clean" means sandpaper until shiny: both sides of every wire terminal ring, both battery posts, the starter/solenoid posts, and the car body and engine threaded areas where ground terminals get bolted to (sand thru paint to the bare metal underneath if you have to). After sanding, spray with brake cleaner or similar. Do not apply dielectric grease on these areas - that stuff is an electrical insulator! Assemble dry.

Good deal, I'll have to do this one weekend My battery is only like 5 months old and I know the posts are good. Thanks for the tip!

Definitely do the above suggestions, but personally if its been doing it for 5 years I doubt its corrosion or a weak battery. Those would have failed by now over the 5 years. I have always thought our cars crank over slow compared to other cars. This is just something I have decided to deal with. I also notice other mitus crank over and sound the same. My brothers evo X cranks slow.

I have found that my car cranks over almost immediately, unless I am sitting up hill, then I need to add a little throttle to the mix.
I would clean the connections on the starter and see if it helps.

if you have a ton of auxiliary stuff hooked up to your car like security systems, remote start, turbo timers… all gonna drain your battery and cause a weak crank. I'm at 12.4 and you should have like 14amps to start
