P0420

I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart.
with 94,000 miles.
Hey My Check Engine Light has been on for a while since (78,000)and now i need to pass inspection.

I got 2 codes the p0420 and a misfire.
I could reset the code and drive 35-45 miles before it came on.

I changed both oxygen sensors and now it still comes back on but around 90 miles.
dont know what to do.
I would hate to have the catalytic converter replaced but im not sure,
Cant even find one to buy.

any suggestions. P.S. also cop pulled me over and game me 5 days to pass emissions and state inspection. Today is day 6 and the police department township is closed on the weekends.

Do a search for CEL code P0420, and you will find more information than you can read in one night. Although if I were living in York, I'd be parked in front of CBRD first thing Monday morning. They can fix it: most likely faster than you could.

check for exhaust leaks, if none, then clean or replace your spark plugs...then complete this drive cycle:

1. Engine: start
2. Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 72 km/h (45 mph).
3. Travel for 300 seconds or more while keeping the vehicle speed at 72 − 97 km/h (45 − 60
mph).
4. Decelerate until the vehicle speed is within 56 − 64 km/h (35 − 40 mph).
5. While keeping the accelerator pedal opening degree constant, keep the vehicle speed at
56 − 64 km/h (35 − 40 mph) and travel for 90 seconds or more. (During monitor)
6. Fully close the throttle and decelerate, and keep the deceleration state for 10 seconds.
Then, quickly accelerate until the vehicle speed reaches 56 − 64 km/h (35 − 40 mph).
Then, repeat steps 5 and 6, and complete six monitor sessions.
7. Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position.
8. Confirm that the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is not output.

if the code comes back, replace the catalytic converter
