Unbolted muffler. WoW!!

I unbolted my muffler on friday and it sounds crazy. I was like WoW!!! It is so loud like i have an exhaust. Also it seems like im gettin more high end power from it. Im gonna bolt it back on in a couple of days. I just wanted to know how my car sounded like with an unbolted muffler.

Just be careful, fumes are not cool (and deadly).

yellowcar, is that what I smelled this morning when I walked outside? The smell of your exhaust fuming into my nostril and millions of others? You're the cause of the smog problem in Los Angeles, CA! problem solved. hehe J/K

Get a axle back and you will have a win/win/win situation. Lighter, more power, sounds great. And plus, cost way less than a full exhaust system. People are selling used axle backs are like 100-150 here but don't know if it will fit the RA.

For the record, the muffler does nothing for your emissions, it is for sound purposes only. You back pressure will be fine as long as you still have piping. The fumes will not vary as long as you still have your piping and you still have your cats. The neon SRT4 doesnt have any mufflers stock and that is why that car sounds so good in stock trim.

The technical knowledge is amazing sometimes.

True, the SRT-4 has no mufflers. But it's not just straight pipes coming off of the header. It's got resonators on the mid-pipe to tune it to that bad-*** sound.

That's why you can't take a muffler off of, say a Cavalier or Civic and get that great "straight pipe" sound. The resonators aren't built for that.

Try running a straight pipe on the Ralliart with no mufflers, no resonators, nothing. It will sound like garbage, guaranteed. Same goes for the SRT-4.

I never said the SRT4 didnt have resonators. I said it didnt have mufflers. I cars have resonators and mufflers so that they retain a quieter sound from the factory. I have a full cat back exhaust with no resonators and the sound is a little too loud, but when my car is at WOT the thing screams and sounds great. The noise in the car is a little loud, but I can deal with it. But the resonators are not what I was referring to in my previous post. I was commenting on the fact that a muffler doesnt alter your emissions. Mufflers and resonators are for sound and catalytic converters are for emissions. (I know there is more to it, but those are located IN the exhaust system)

Yeah, I agree with you completely on the emissions thing. I guess I thought you were only talking about the exhaust sound. My bad!
