curious about my air box

yall might say this is ghetto however if you take your time like me and make it look professional it comes out great, i cut the front section of my airbox out to expose the full KN filter. actually a flat panel filter is superior to a conical filter due to surface area and flow rate. anyway i think its cool that even when my car was bone stock it sounded like a turbo spooling up between 1500-3500 but now its even louder, everybody that rides in my car is like hey whats that turbo sound i say dont know its my intake making a cool noise, anywho thought id share and ask if others have the same sound lata

that is pretty ghetto. lol Be careful though, i dont think thats very safe for the engine. Just save up some dough and go buy the real thing from RRM or Injen. Ultimate racing has a short ram intake as well.

doesn't sound that ghetto...a lot of 1G DSM's "hack"" the airbox to expose the air filter...this would serve the same purpose IMO...good job!

Hey....a quick question.......With the short-Ram intake will the same sound be produced or will it be louder? Or for that matter will a CAI be louder? I haven't played with my intake situation yet but just wondering what to expect

I would expect a CAI to be of about similar volume to a short-ram....they use the same filters. A short ram is less efficent though!

Someone said something to me that may ring true here.... just because you sound fast, doesn't mean that you can go fast. Having said that, I know what you mean by nice throttle sound. My only concern is that you are now sucking up alot of HOT air from the engine compartment, which will hurt your performance.

Seems similar to a "Swiss Cheese Mod", where you take a big ol' drillbit, and put tons of holes in the bottom of your airbox. Ultra-cheap, and effective, but very ghetto... maybe if you concentrate the holes more towards the front and fender sides of the airbox, you'll get cooler air.
