The Ferrari system is not a DCT.

The underlying hardware and software are better than AutoStick- or CVT-type transmissions in the way that they handle shifts, transfer power, and interact with the driver.

agreed. Yet some of us will be using this as a daily driver and there is always that one uphill parking garage or kid in the back we need to deal with. I love 5spd just as much as the next guy but I am not opposed to new technology.

If nissan is using it as the only option in the GTR and Mitsu with the Ralliart there must be a reason. We are all looking for ways to improve our driving experience. Some will do it with a 5spd and some won't.

Their original system was a sequential manual, but they also have developed several DCT designs, including the 7 speed to be used in their 2009 models. For comparison sake SMG is also a "new" technology that has been touted as superior to manual just as DCT has.

Didn't know that. Regardless, the F1 semi-auto you mentioned earlier is not a DCT.

i know, that why i said its not the same transmission, but the principle and feel is the same, u can have it full auto or tell it when to shift, but the car is still doing the shifting.

ive been driving my auto RA for over 2 years now and its still good, but i dont love the drive as much as i used to, but i jump into a manual car (sometimes i just use a friends or get a hire car for the sake of it) and it may not be as fast, look as good or have the same fun understeer as my RA but the fun of shifting and matching revs or heel toeing(still learning this) etc cannot be beaten

The F1 cant truely be compared to the sst. The money and R&D that is used towards it is more then 10 years of some peoples salary. Not to mention the system was designed for that. Now try driving one of those no the turnpike at rush hour. The shift shock would be crazy for the people in the DD way of things. Not that it would bother me but still its a different system all together.

SIDENOTE: are we ever going to get back the the tech or get any more information and pic's on this car before we end seeing them going down the road, Or is this thread now just one big argument waiting to happen due to speculation and differences of opinions of the Future of man kinds vehicles?
