Turn up the boost!

Trying to mimick what can be done on the X.

This trick works on a ton of other cars as well but I wanted to state it here for everyone else to discuss.

Just turn up the boost!
Though Im not sure how much boost the TD04 is capable of delivering overall, you can squeaze a little more life out of it by simply adjusting the actuator arm.

Remover the upper strut bar, remove the heat sheilds, locate control arm. ( if your looking at the motor from the front of the car it on the backside, between the motor and the firewall and connects to a little crank arm on the exhaust header. loosen the locking nut first, then pull out the pin, and then start rotating the plastic end with the hole in it clockwise to shorten the overall length of the actuator arm. )

This is increasing the spring tension on the arm and allowing more boost to build before letting it slip away down the exhaust.

Please provide all the input on this you can.

Questions: what is the stock boost on a Ralliart? With every turn, how much boost is being added? Is the Ralliart and Evo X similar enough for this to be safe? Whats the best boost gauge to monitor boost activity?.......

The engine is exactly the same straight down to the compression ratio. As for the fuel system, i wouldnt expect them to be the same. But i would expect it to be enough to up the boost a bit.

It's good to see the actuator arm is adjustable.

Hmm.. I thought that the Ralliart had 9:1 and the Evo had 10:1. I could be wrong. Where can we find out for sure?

Nope. They are identical engines. You don't run 10:1 on any turbocharged engine unless you have direct injection.

I would rather touch the solenoid for boosting up than touching the actuator arm.

I'd rather wait for a flash instead of just *****-nilly upping the boost mechanically. It's your baby, but you just paid $26-27k for the car and you want to go ghetto on boost control?

Yeah wastegate modding is ghetto boost control. Have patience and wait for flashes to become available.

Ghetto? No Thank you. I hate Ghetto, but I do like to tweak things. I certainly agree that if a flash were available I would go that route and as soon as its available I will.

I just had to try out this mod which is found here ( EVOM ) in the EVO section. I also assumed that doing this and posting it would start good ( pratically a firestorm ) conversation which is also good for everyone else so long as we keep it constructive and post with as much detail as possible. So please, keep posting the good, the bad and the ugly.

The cams are reported to be the same.

I want to turn the boost up but I was told to 'turn it to eleven'......but...my knob only goes to 10.....I want to really push it over the edge....how can I turn it to eleven?

get a bigger amp!

I turned the actuator eyelet 3 complete turns and shortened the arm. Without a boost gauge its total hear say how much more boost that created.

i think the ecu controls through the solenoid valve your boost not the VGA . so what you do is tightening the rod, so it will keep the boost higher and longer in the high range, within the stock peak factory boost range. The peak boost will come later. Also you will might see a higher spike. it will be oke if its a same engine then the evo, since the evo runs in higher boost as an OEM car.
But you can, i think actually shortened the spring life in the VGA or causing even failure Keep that in mind.
I dont know how the RA tuned , i'm sure differently then the Evo, so you might will see some differences too.
Also you might want to change it later for an aftermarket VGA.

It is working in the Evos , so i think it will in the RA too.
keep us posted pls.
