I'm from socal and just wondering if anyone knows for sure if side mounting the license plate is illegal or not.

 

I'm in Toronto and have my licence plate on the side. imo... it looks much better and I have had the car for 9 months with no problems. Cops have given the car a good glance but no trouble

 

Where did you get the side mount plate holder from? I'm wanting to do that (just got to figure some way to cover the 2 holes in middle of the black part on the bumper )

 

California Vehicle Code §§ 5201 and 11713.17 do not specify that a front license plate must be mounted in the center. It cannot be obscured (e.g., sitting on the dash), and it cannot be mounted more than 60 inches from the ground. Neither of those apply in this situation, so as far as I can see, us Californians can reposition the license plate off center.

the mount which comes with the evo-x is a "side mount".

they are sold that way in california.

i had an evo-x plate holder on my '08 gts.

my friend ( who is a leo ) said......

"i like it , but i would still write you up for your windows".

 

I run it on the side... cops thinks it s new evo x lol...

the plate holder i bought from dealer. factory holder for the evo x.

if you look around at various auto part stores............
........ you can find some small, black push-in plug/caps to cover the holes.

 

As long as the front plate is visible they can't say anything!

 

You my friend are not from Cali they will say anything!!! haha
